A 44- year-old police sergeant, Emmanuel Amede allegedly shot himself dead at the Nungua Police Barracks in an apparent suicide.
Amede was attached to the SWAT Unit of the Accra Regional Police Command and is said to have used an AK 47 rifle to shoot himself in the throat in his room at the barracks at about 2:30am on Sunday, January 6, 2019.
Information gathered indicate that before shooting himself, Mr. Amede woke up from sleep and ordered his wife and two children to leave the room else he would kill them.
His wife was said to have rushed out with her children to seek for help.
Although the cry for help by the wife drew the attention of some neighbours in the barracks who are also policemen, but before they could help, Mr. Amede took his life.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Effia Tenge confirmed the incident.
She said Mr. Amede shot himself in the throat before his neighbours got to his room.
She explained that Mr. Amede was scheduled for night patrol duties and he booked for the rifle at his unit which he was expected to return on Sunday morning at 6am.
It is, however, suspected that he went home instead of going to work.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue.

Oh Mr Police officer why? Even me your age mate I don't have anything to my credit, not even a child, wife, money I mean absolutely nothing but I'm still alive looking up to God Almighty! Or is it your money which is locked at Menzgold? Even if it is that, you don't have to commit suicide!
On 31st December 2018, churches all over Ghana were packed for “31st Night Services”. Dr. Mensah Otabil filled the Independence Square with thousands, Archbishop Duncan Williams had thousands at Action Cathedral. The Perez Church was also very huge. From the Makers House to Parliament Chapel all were packed to their thousands. The Local Churches in Kumasi filled the Sports stadium. Then to Odorkor where a few hundreds gathered at Glorious Word Power Ministry led by Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah. All the various declarations and the prophecies at all the huge churches mattered NOT to the Media in Ghana and for the matter Ghanaians especially the Politicians but that of the little platform of Rev Owusu Bempah. WHY? This question would require revelatory insight before it could be answered. Some “Men of God” as known in Ghana were in the news the next day to crucify Rev Owusu Bempah, some went to the extent to declare that he is Not from God notably among them were Rev Sam Korankye Ankra and Rev Opuni at a time violence were being erupted by the so-called Muslims Youth. Most people encouraged the violence with their comments rather than calling for calmness. Public condemnation of fellow Vineyard Worker; Is this the way God wants it to be? Rev Opuni stated on Adom FM that it is the president and other Government Official who has given Rev Owusu Bempah the platform to do what he was doing but the question is: Was his declaration & prophesy done on a National Platform? i.e. on National television or Radio? His message was for the consumption of his small congregants at his church auditorium so where from Rev. Opuni’s assertion? Is it hatred for the President or Rev Owusu Bempah? And to Rev Sam Korankye Ankra; Please note that God does not need anyone’s help to fight for him or clean HIS house. If Rev Owusu Bempah is not from God, then we leave him to God. And what is the point in you knelling and rendering an apology to the Chief Imam for a prophesy that has nothing to do with you? The way He used Isiah is different from the way He used Elijah, so we can’t say for sure that a minister is not from God. As the scripture says: “who are you to judge another man’s servant?” Thank God for people like Rev Eastwood Anaba for his Holy Spirit led comments on this matter which was full of Wisdom. Please note: In God’s kingdom, you don’t decide when you are holy and righteous, because you can’t earn it. You’re holy and righteous because of what He did, not because of anything you do. Let’s lead as Christ did; in LOVE. Don’t be quick to pronounce judgement; David did and lost four of his children. Jimmy Swaggart did to Jim Baker and we all know the results. GOD HELP US ALL!!
Why police service can not have a central point as it is done in the military, so that at the close of work each day, they can return their rifles, and keep on going for it each day rather than keeping the rifles in their houses, why?
