Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, the Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC) has admonished Ghanaians to cherish and jealously protect the prevailing peace in the country.
He emphasised that “war is extremely expensive than peace”, and advised Ghanaians not to allow little misunderstandings in politics, tribal and religious settings to divide them and denigrate national harmony and social cohesion.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the wake of renewed clashes in Yendi, linked to the Dagbon Chieftaincy crisis, Most Rev Prof Asante stressed that the NPC would support the implementation of the Asantehene-led Mediation Committee road map to the restoration of peace in Dagbon.
He expressed shock over the renew clashes between some Abudus and Andanis, and pleaded with the two feuding factions to tolerate and respect each other, and give peace a chance as the government ensured implementation of the road map.
Most Rev Asante also advised Ghanaians to emulate the religious tolerance of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharabutu and emphasised that the high level of religious maturity, endurance and long suffering, exhibited by the Chief Imam in handling prophecies concerning his life was unparalleled.
He advised the clergy to be circumspect on issues concerning prophecies, by ensuring that they operated in the context of the rule of law, in order not to cause confusion in the country.
