Apologise for calling us “pure criminals” – GNAT to Adei
The Ghana National Association of Teachers, (GNAT), has called on the former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, to apologise to its members for describing them as “pure criminals.”
Prof Adei told, on Thursday, 24 January 2019 on Class FM tsaid Ghanaian teachers in public basic schools are “pure criminals” because "they do not teach” yet take their salaries and send their children to private schools.
In his view, that attitude of the teachers was affecting the quality of education at the primary level.
In an interview on Ahomka FM, the Central Regional Chairman of GNAT, Dr Isaac Owusu, described Prof Adei's comment as unfortunate and demanded an apology.
He said: "I’ve also heard what our senior comrade, Prof Stephen Adei has said about the teachers in this country, and, in fact, this is not the first time he's spoken. He's our elder and a very respectable man, so, we sometimes don't want to be treating him like we do to others...
“It is, indeed, an insult. Yes, indeed, like in every institution or profession, you may find one or two teachers among us who may be doing what is not expected, but that doesn't mean you should generalise it that all teachers are criminals.
“It is very unfortunate, so, we, the GNAT members in the region, are calling on him to apologise to all teachers before he incurs our wrath".

I THOUGHT in public school before and I always have problems with the rest of the Teachers, first they won't come to school the day to they come they comes late notwithstanding that they will find a Sade and sit there and before 12:00pm they are gone. are we serious lets face the fact.
It pains me that you've notice that the teachers in public schools are criminals yet you wouldn't do anything to eliminate them from existing but rather condemning them and leave them to move on.......am really surprise at u. Some of us find it difficult to leave our television sets free when ever we've heard that u would be coming on show but with this comment!!!! I Togbui Ahiabu will never wasted my time on u again.
Why is that most policians go for medical review s abroad. Don't we have hospitals in Ghana. Same way you cannot put an ill resourced structure there and call it a school. Do you expect the teacher to use his meagre salary to provide learning aids for the school? They always want to push us down so that their children will go to Havard and come and rule over us. We also deserve better. We will send our children private school some. Is it against the law? Mtchweeew.
So ask (GNAT) as yourself, why are a lot of people sending their children to private schools. because they receive results. most public school teachers don't put in their best to help Ghanaian children rather, have other businesses on the side rather than concentrating. the truth is bitter but its a pill that must be swallowed. GNAT pls change the face of the public schools by monitoring what our TRAINED teachers are doing. they must be accountable for the salaries they are paid which is all tax payers money. thank you
This professor is a classical example of a sycophant, period!
WE NEED TO CALL SPADE A SPADE NOT A BIG SPOON. THOUGH THE DESCRIPTION TEACHERS DOES NOT MEAN ALL TEACHERS, IT IS TRUE THAT MANY TEACHERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOL DO NOT WORK HARD ENOUGH. IT IS IRONICAL IF TEACHERS DISLIKE TO BRING THEIR OWN CHILDREN TO THE SCHOOLS THEY TEACH BECAUSE OF OF LACK OF ADEQUATE PROVISION OF QUALITY EDUCATION AND INSTEAD TAKE THEM TO PRIVATE SCHOOL. EVERYBODY KNOW THAT THIS IS A TRUE FACT SO WE CANNOT PRETEND AS IF IT IS NOT HAPPENING. GNAT MUST ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE IN GOOD FAITH AND LOOK FOR HOW THEY CAN IMPROVE THE SITUATION RATHER THAN BENT ON SEEKING APOLOGY.

truth is indeed very bitter. looking at how ple are insulting the man for speaking a simple truth? most teachers in the public schools especially those in the remote areas do not go to school most of the times and even when they do they dont teach. this truth might hurt u if u are teacher for the parents who knows how it feels to have ur child go to school and come back home without been taught anything will say the man spoke the truth. Most of them send their children to private schools and you will ask why? I went to school in the village and I know what the man is talking. I only disagree with him for calling them cr1m1nals other than that everything he said is the truth.
