Technology has a great impact on love affairs and is extended onto Valentine day celebrations.

Because of the digital world, it is now unusual to present gifts and express love in a tangible way as was done in the past.

The standard flowers, valentine cards, chocolates were appreciative, but the social media is guaranteeing that everyone tries to get more creative and stimulating gifts to show how much they care.

If wondering how and what has changed, averagely people will prefer to share pictures with their love mates on social media, to showcase their love publicly than to have a private romantic moment with them.

They fall in love with remarks and interactions that will occur on the media platforms concerning the pictures.

In recent Valentine celebrations, people are seen more actively on social networks such twitter, what -Sap, facebook, instagram, among others flaunting gifts to draw unnecessary attention.

Emmanuel Todd, a married man in his mid- twenties in an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the social media had made valentine become a financial investment, since they needed to buy exclusive gifts for their partners to show how they cared.

He added, that it caused pressure on relationships and increased infidelity thus the person will go in for rich lovers for luxurious gifts to flaunt on them.

Social Media now determines how love is celebrated as abuses have become the norm of the day rather than showing great love

In an interview with Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mrs. Selassie Atari, 53-year-old Ghanaian, said ‘’ Valentine is not celebrated like we are doing today, in the past it was meant for love for all and not just for man and woman intimacy.

She said social media had ruined everything, no privacy, leaked love videos everywhere, but if I had my own power to make decisions, I will put a stop to the celebration’’.

Valentine's Day is an international festival that celebrates feelings of love and serves as a reminder that true love is still in existence.

‘’The young ones even get into intimacy acts and feel right to discuss among friends. Looking at things now; it is stress-free to look striking or beautiful to get attracted to the opposite sex as it was in the past, we wear exposing dresses, applying make-up and other things that they learn on social media, so they take advantage of the love celebration and engage in voluptuous activities’’ Ms Sandra Ayi, a single mother told the GNA.

February 14 St. Valentine Day, is a day of romance, declared by Pope Gelasius when Lupercalia survived the initial rise of Christianity, but was outlawed as it was deemed ‘’unchristian’’- in the 5th century in the year 496 from a roman festival.

Valentine's Day is named after Saint Valentine, a Catholic priest who lived in Rome in the 3rd Century. There are many stories about St Valentine and over time these stories grew into the legend we know today.

Finding true love and sharing of gifts is unique, giving out Valentine’s Day cards, flowers, chocolate and spending enough time with family and friends should be more jolly.
