What seems to be a renewed chieftaincy clashes has led to the death of one and another injured in Bolgatanga on Wednesday.
The two who were shot following gunshot exchanges between two sides were taken to the Bolgatanga Hospital.
However one died on arrival and the other is in critical condition.
Even though the cause of the renewed chieftaincy dispute is yet to be ascertained, a joint military and Police personnel have been deployed to the town to restore peace.
“We are maintaining our presence 24/7 . . . we will continue dialoguing with the two sides and at the appropriate time whatever transpires will be made known,” ACP Ampofo Duku, Upper East Regional Police Commander said.
Background
The Bolgatanga chieftaincy clashes began after the death of the Paramount Chief of Bolgatanga, Naba Martin Abilba III, in 2013, with his eldest son and another royal laying claim to the stool.
The Judicial Committee of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs ruled on the matter, but the case is currently pending at the Bolgatanga High Court.

Quite sad. I know Bolgatanga too well and all my life I have never seen them engage in such unnecessary fights. Why now? The quiet and peaceful nature of Bolga should be highly protected.... I am sad because the Bolga people are so accommodating and hardly engage in fights. You will not even find two people engage in argument let alone fighting to the extent of shooting themselves. Something is gone amiss.
Peace fm must censor certain comments. Both northerners and southerners use less fortunate youngsters to run dubious errands.
Northerners and foooooöling!!! Govt must not waste tax payers on these people
