Inmates of the Kumasi Central Prisons have pleaded with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to grant presidential pardon and amnesty to their colleagues who have served for so many years.
The leader of the inmates, J.M. Aikins, said there are ill and aged inmates who have served several years rendering their lives miserable.
He said Ghanaian prison inmates, especially those at the Kumasi Central Prions, have not had a presidential pardon or amnesty since the New Patriotic Party came into office in 2017.
Mr Aikins said the Kumasi Central Prisons has become congested, adding that pardoning some of the inmates will greatly help the situation.
He, thus, pleaded with the president to exercise his power of pardon.
Mr Aikins said this when Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday, 22 May 2019 opened a water system at the Kumasi Central Prisons.
Dr Bawumia said water supply systems initially installed in the prisons were no longer adequate because of the constant increase in the population of inmates.
He said the government will ensure equitable water supply to all the prisons in the country.

I AGREE WITH YOU SOMEHOW. BUT LESSER CRIMES LIKE WEED SMOKERS OR DRUGS MUST BE CONSIDERED BEEN PARDONED IF THEY HAVE SERVRD AT LEAST TWO THIRDS OF THEIR SENTENCE. BUT ARMED ROBBERS, RAPISTS AND MURDERES SHOULD BE LEFT TO ROT IN THERE.
ex convict recently killed his 72 year old grandmother, so you guys are going to rot there because you will go back to committing more crime
