The Canadian government has issued alert to its citizens in Ghana to step up their security in the wake of Tuesday’s kidnapping of two of its nationals in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
Two Canadian women were kidnapped at Ahodwo on Tuesday at about 8:25pm. The women, one of whose name has been given as Lauren, were forced into a vehicle just when they stepped out of their apartment at Silver Spring Avenue.
The Police have confirmed the incident, stating investigations have commenced in earnest in a bid to rescue the two volunteers who are in the country on the ticket of Youth Challenge International, a nongovernmental organisation.
But the government on Thursday, June 6 issued a fresh “violent crimes” alert for Ghana, stating armed robbery and kidnapping may occur.
It has since June 6 updated its security and safety alert on Ghana on its official website to include the latest information.

Who in his right frame of sense, will still go ahead with this kind of plan? Politicians when they see crowd will always say things to show "they are there some"!! If I tell you that, the bad myopic people in NPP are rather taking advantage of what Ofosu-Ampofo said and are doing these just to "make true" what Ofosu Ampofo said and make the NDC unpopular? As right thinking citizens we should rather look at things carefully and in all angles so we are not taken by surprise looking in one direction....... Because of politics, round pegs are being placed in square holes. Ask yourself, if KOFI BOAKYE was made IGP, would things be a bit different from what is happening now? When he was in charge of Kumasi, were we hearing of such cases in Kumasi? Abena, you are a lady I hope so, hence will advise you to stay off such dirty, baseless and shallow politics and reason as a lady if not Akuffo Addo will continually insult your capabilities wai..........
@ABENA-DO YOU HAVE THE EVIDENCE? IF YES GO GIVE IT TO POLICE OR STOP YOUR FALSEHOOD.
SO WHAT KIND OF N O N E S E N S E COMMENTS AM I READING WHEN WE ALL KNKOW THAT OFOSU AMPOFO IS THE INITIATED THIS AGENDA
BAD NEWS FOR GHANA
Yieee Nana Addo bebia wo de y3n aduru nie
This is what majority of Ghanaians voted for....
This Nana Addo has no control over security measures for country. He is a serious Joker, just globe trotting and smiling sheepishly all over the place while citizens and foreigners are being kidnpapped, and murdered. This old man is indeed BAD NEWS!!
Akuffo Addo could not even maintain the peaceful atmosphere he came to meet. Ghana is now labeled as insecure. So bad. God save us from this super incompetence
Our beloved Ghana is now not save to visit and stay. Crime is at the increase, such as the armed robbery activities and the Kidnappings. The Question asked is why? Simply answered. The few rich ghanaians are growing richer and the majority of ghanaians are leaving in abject poverty. Ghana once a land attracted by Visitors because of the ghanaian hospitality and the local dishes is now full of criminal activities. Lack of Jobs, for the youth is creating life difficult for most of the youth Walking on the Streets, so Survival for the fitters.Ghanas indenpendence that was fought by our patriotic Leaders is now meaningless for Ghanaians. Ghanaians on their own soil are leaving in fear. The gab between the rich and the poor is so wide. A land blessed with abundant natural resources. The security System is very weak in Ghana. and interestingly, our politicians have their own personel security gaurds. The poor today is vunerable in Ghana. Ist very sad. We are appaeling to our Leaders to strengthen the security System in Ghana and give Jobs for the youth.
Akufo-Addo, this is the seed you have come to sow in Ghana and the only legacy you will be leaving behind- broad daylight kidnapping and insecurity in the country. This is very disappointing
