The President Spokesperson, Mahama Ayariga, has taken a major step towards his parliamentary comeback with the eventful launching of his fan club in Bawku, amidst booming of gunshot. His brief stay in Upper East Regional town was characteristically turbulent although this time around no fatality was recorded.

Sources said the Bawku warlords reached for their arsenals, firing indiscriminately just after the delegation of the National Peace Council had met the feuding factions on Friday. The Peace Council delegation left Bawku only to hear about the renewed hostilities with no fatality being recorded. Many of his Kusasi-speaking supporters were said to have been bused from nearby locations such as Pusiga, Widana and Misiga to the Community centre venue of the launching in Bawku.

Not all the locations were enthused with the Ayariga manouvre especially Azanga, a stronghold of a candidate for the MCE positon, a certain Isahaku, where the gratis T-shirts were rejected by residents. That night, the peace of the flashpoint was disturbed once more and indeed many expected the gunshots because after all, the Presidential Spokesperson was around. There was sporadic firing by some unknown persons to create a panic situation in the locality, it was later learnt. Following the gunshots, the military detachment from the Airborne Force embarked on an operation, assaulting persons on suspicion of being behind the shooting spree, especially in Pusum. A caller told Daily Guide however that ironically, the gunshots emanated from an area close to the residence of the spokesperson of the Kusai Naba, called Thomas Abila.

There is bad blood between the soldiers and the residents of the Bawku Town, a departure from the previous situation. A certain Captain Frank, particularly, is considered as highly partial in the manner in which he is performing his duties in the turbulent town. Hon. Ayarigas T-shirts were printed a little over a month ago at a location in Lagostown, (New Town) Accra, toward the grand launching of his fan club. Such fan clubs are nurturing ground for the eventual launching of political campaigns.

The Presidential Spokesperson has made no secret about his obsession to return to Parliament and is said to be hoping for a possible by-election in the constituency. He has not failed to follow the fate of the incumbent MP, Hon Daramani Adamu Sakander, as the latter battles with the law over his alleged British citizenship. In a previous turbulent visit to Bawku, Ayariga reportedly embarked on a gift distribution spree in a manner which prompted people to ask whether he had suddenly usurped the role of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
