An ardent member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Boamah Otukunor, has taken a swipe at the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo accusing him of having surrounded himself with people of suspicious character who have crooked moral background.
At first, it was a perception that Nana Addo was just a reflection of the people around him and not a man of his own, but now it is clear that the NPP flagbearer was controlled by certain individuals like Gabby Otchere Darko, Otukunor said.
Speaking on Asempa FMs Ekosei Sen programme, the NDC activist opined that the opposition NPP was only interested in running a singing and dancing campaign and cannot be considered as a serious party. He cited the recent tour of Europe by the NPP flagbearer and some members of his campaign team to buttress his point saying, Nana was dancing with Ursula Owusu and other females around him, instead of getting in sync with the people.
To him, for someone aspiring to hold the highest office of the land, it was unwise on the part of the NPP Flagbearer to have associated himself with Yaw Amfo-Kwakye, one-time Special Assistant to the NPP Flagbearer (when he was a Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration) accused of dealing in drugs, and to be also closely aligned with Gabby Otchere Darko who once publicly stated that smoking weed isnt a big deal.
The recent tour of the United Kingdom (UK) and Germany by the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, to interact with party members in preparation for the 2012 election, was overshadowed by revelation that his Special Assistance (PA), Yaw Amfo-Kwakye, was once jailed in the UK for exporting cannabis to that country, according to The Herald newspaper.
According to the pro-government newspaper citing other reports, Amfo-Kwakye, Nanas right-hand man, was once goaled in London for five years in the 80s for exporting wee, concealed in tubers of yam, to that country.
In a no-holds barred submission, Mr. Otukunor, who is a member of the NDCs Communication Team turned the heat on some members of recently announced Campaign Committee of the NPP and proffered that the NPP Flagbearer erred greatly in offering Lord Commey, a former National Organiser of the party, the role of Director of Operations claiming he (Commey) would not bat an eyelid in trading his soul for money.
Sika nie, Lord Commey nie, he said sardonically.
It smacks of bad leadership on the part of Nana Addo to simply appoint Professor Frimpong-Boateng and Alan Kyeremanten (as members of the team) under the guise of unity and not give them key positions in his campaign, Otukunor said.
Last week, the NPP unveiled a 35-member Campaign Committee made up of its National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey; former National Chairman, Peter Mac Manu; Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flag-bearer and his Campaign Manager, Boakye Agyarko, who is member-secretary of the Committee.
Others are Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader; Fred Oware; T.B. Damba; and Sophia Honner-Sam, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Vice Chairpersons respectively of the party; Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, General Secretary; Esther Ofori, National Treasurer; Alhaji Moctar Bamba, National Organiser; Otiko Djaba, National Womens Organiser; Anthony Karbo, National Youth Organizer; and Alhaji Abubakar Sulemana.
Alan Kyerematen; Isaac Osei and Dr Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, all contestants in the partys 2009 presidential primary; Hajia Alima Mahama, former Minister for Women and Childrens Affairs; Mike Oquaye, MP for Dome-Kwabenya; Cecilia Abena Dapaah, MP for Bantama; Freddy Blay, former MP for Ellembele; and Mrs Beno Bismark were also nominated by Nana Akufo-Addo to join the team.
The Member of Parliament for Okere and former General Secretary of the party, Dan Botwe; Yaw Twumasi; Matthew Opoku Prempeh, MP for Manhyia; Ato Williams; Gloria Akuffo, a former Deputy Attorney General; Ken Ofori-Atta, Executive Chairman of Databank Financial Services; Lord Commey, a former National Organiser; Victor Newman; Frema Osei-Opare and Nana Akomea are all part of the team working in various capacities.
However, there have been concerns that the team is composed of old men who have no new ideas or strategies to contribute to the partys campaign.
