The Director of Communications at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho, says he has no qualms with the statement by flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, that the 2012 general elections would be based on a choice between stagnation and progress, between non-performance and competence, between corruption and integrity since the ruling NDC will garner a lot of votes in that respect.
The NPP on Sunday held a non-denominational church service at the Essipong Stadium in the Western region.
According to the NPP, it is their absolute conviction that before any serious campaigning begins, they have to commit the presidential candidate, all the 230 parliamentary candidates, the party and indeed the entire nation into the care and mercy of God for His Will to be done.
Themed: Setting Forth With The Hand Of God, it was attended by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, the partys presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo, National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and his team of the National Executive members; the Campaign Manager, Mr. Boakye Agyarko, as well as the partys parliamentary candidates across the country.
Addressing the mammoth crowd at the Essipong stadium, the NPP flagbearer was optimistic that the NPP will be victorious in this years polls which he said was a choice between stagnation and progress, between non-performance and competence, between corruption and integrity. Well, I have no doubt that the Ghanaian people will favour us with the blessing of the Almighty, he said.
But the Director of Communications at the Presidency pooh-poohed the NPPs Thanksgiving and Prayer Session saying the same people who saw everything wrong with President Mills declaring his joy in the Lord for making him king, are now approaching God for political favours.
Describing them as hypocrites, he sarcastic said the NPP has now realised the importance of prayers after on several occasions castigating President Mills for turning the seat of government, the Osu Castle into a prayer camp.
To him, what transpired at the Essipong Stadium was a clear indication that the NPP wants to mock at the Lord.
Speaking on Peace FM and on various other networks (not excluding AdomFM), Koku Anyidoho posited that if today, some people want to be hypocrites and worship God because we are approaching an election year, it is their own cup of tea. But Ghanaians know about the presidents commitment in instituting the National Thanksgiving day where millions throng to worship God in one accord. God cant be mocked so if some people think they can mock Him by using this strategy to garner votes, then it will not wash, he said.
According to him, since President Mills has surrounded himself with people who are determined to fight the drug menace to the core, he would not be surprised if their mandate is renewed after the 2012 voting.
They will look at the person who has surrounded himself with people who are determined to fight the drug menace as against the person who has surrounded himself with drug dealersPresident Mills is sending Ghana in the right direction and this is what Ghanaians are looking forGhanaians will surely know who to vote for if you put both President Mills and Nana Addo on stage, he noted.
