The first political Mammoth Rally by the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC], three years after the party won the 2008 general elections in Ghana under the leadership of Professor John Evans Atta Mills, is currently underway at Mantse Agboena.
Aimed at celebrating the achievements of the NDCs Better Ghana Agenda, the partys Greater Accra parliamentary aspirants will be introduced to the gathering.
Expected to grace the occasion are Leader of the Party, His Excellency President Mills, Vice President John Dramani Mahama, the party Chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and other National Executive members including thousands of party faithfuls.
Interestingly, it still remains unclear if Founder of the NDC, Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and his Wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings will turn up.
Some political pundits have simply kept their fingers crossed and are watching with keen eyes the apparent deep chasm that seem to have developed between the founder and the government.
Indeed there have been major problems with letters either delivered or received at the Office of the Former President and that caused a lot of embarrassment for the government and the party in the past.
Mention would be made of the issue of the Trassaco House bought by the government for the former First family and the way the issue was handled by the Office and the government.
Another issue was the recent Invitation of the Former First Family to a ceremony in Ave-Avenor which was to honour Hon. Doe Adjaho. The office issued a statement a few hours to the event to state that no correspondence was received to that effect.
It therefore came as no surprise when National Chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei, a few hours (Friday evening) to the rally, stated in an interview on television that he would have wished the party was more united than it is today ahead of the crucial December polls.
He was particularly worried such factions within the party could have adverse effects on the partys chances of retaining power.
But the followers of the NDC are interested in forging a united front into the next elections with one purpose in mind, VICTORY. Victory for the NDC, the survival of the party and the development of Ghana.
That obviously will be the central message at today's rally; UNITY!!!
More soon...
