Parliament says the relevance of the Appointments Committee cannot be questioned after members were accused of using the platform to settle personal scores with individuals who appear before them.
The minority leader in parliament Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, who has been defending the committees work, was responding to such assertions following what appeared to be personal grilling of the Eastern Regional Minister-designate, Victor Smith on Monday.
Minority Members on the Committee grilled on certain issues which gave the impression that Mr Smith was being vilified at the vetting.
But Mr. Kyei Mensah Bonsu expressed surprise at these assertions in an interview with XYZ News. He said the committee only deal with the competence of individuals who appear before it.
In the case of Victor Smith for instance, we spoke to his own CV that was before us. When he told us that he had been at the School of Medical Science at KNUST, he had been there for four years. It turns out that there has been no degree or certificate that has been awarded.
He said what they sought to achieve was to interrogate his area of competence for which the president nominated him.
