ATTEMPTS TO DISRUPT KUMASI CONGRESS
Meanwhile, the NDP claims it has gathered intelligence of feverish efforts being made to infiltrate their rank and file with paid imposters at its maiden National Congress scheduled to take place on Saturday in Kumasi.
According to the NDP, the party is reliably informed that some unscrupulous are set to issue "deliberate disinformation purportedly emanating from the NDP".
"We wish to alert the media and general public that any information or statement purporting to come from the NDP must come from certified officials from the partys headquarters i.e. Communications Director, General Secretary and Chairman. We wish to state that nothing will deter us from pursuing the mandate that we have set for ourselves. Our goal is to abide by principles that will give Ghanaians what they deserve," the breakaway party from the ruling NDC said in a statement.
The statement further goes on to say that reports reaching the party indicate some macho boys have been recruited to physically attack and disrupt the congress in Kumasi.
"Some of these boys will be made to wear NDP T-shirts and behave in ways that will bring to question the reputation of the party. We are hereby alerting the police and the general public to dissociate these characters from the TRUE NDP TROOPS. Ours is a peaceful, accountable, transparent and disciplined party that believes in social justice for all," the statement said.
The NDP claims another "infantile and archaic political trickery" up the sleeves of its detractors, will be the attempt to "pay some young men and women to go out and denounce their membership of the party and say they are disgruntled with the TRUE NDP, consequently endorsing a candidate from a different party".
But the party says it remains undaunted by these machinations and schemes.
"The NDP is however convinced that the political character and behavior of Ghanaian politics must change so that every citizen becomes a direct beneficiary of the vast resources of our nation. Ghanaians especially our women and the youth deserve better," the statement added.
