The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has advised the MP-elect of North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to learn to speak the Parliamentary language instead of behaving like the yoyo boys attitude he developed as a Deputy Minister.
This follows Mr. Ablakwas quest to block the election of the NPP nominee, Joe Ghartey as second Deputy Speaker of Parliament because according to him, the oppositions complacent disposition towards the election of John Mahama as President automatically makes them an enemy to state.
On Citi FMs Eyewitness News on Thursday, Mr. Owusu Afriyie warned Mr. Ablakwa saying, he should be very careful; over there, you learn to speak with decorum as the position of the second Deputy Speaker of Parliament is always given to the Minority in Parliament.
He said: In Parliament, they have the gentlemans agreement of always giving the second Deputy Speakership to members of the Minority and I think that I do not see anything that will disturb process.
Mr. Owusu Afriyie also mentioned that the members of the NPP have been advised to stay away from President John Mahamas swearing- in ceremony on January 7, but the partys MPs-elect will be present at the first sitting of the 6th Parliament of the 4th Republic on Sunday, January 6, at 12:05 am.
We will not boycott the proceedings, we will be there in our numbers and I believe that that agreement will still holdand when John Mahama continues to speak and says that he is going to build an all-inclusive government and that we will have people like Okudzeto Ablakwa who does not know a single Parliamentary proceedingslets just wait and see what the NDC will do in Parliament.
In a sharp response, a Deputy Finance Minster and MP-elect for Ketu South, Fiifi Kwetey clarified that when Honourable Samuel Okudzeto speaks, hes speaking on behalf of thousands of people for the great North Tongu Constituency of the Volta Region so therefore, he [Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie] should be absolutely careful; the manner in which he addresses somebody who is representing thousands of people because he directly trying to insult the intelligence of the people of North Tongu.
