Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known in political circles as Sir John has hit hard at President John Mahama for telling Ghanaians that they are too pessimistic and not appreciative of government’s efforts at improving their well-being.

According to the former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ghanaians deserve better from the Mahama-led administration, cautioning that any act of mediocrity and incompetence of the government will not be treated with kids’ gloves.

Addressing some Ghanaians in the USA on the sidelines of his recent participation at the 69th UN General Assembly, President Mahama said the current economic conditions in Ghana are far better than the situation in many countries contrary to growing public frustrations.

“Unfortunately in Ghana, we don’t count our blessings; you can have a glass and pour some water in it half way, you can describe that glass as half empty or half full; If you describe it as half full you are motivated to put some more water to fill it. If you count it as half empty then you are de-motivating yourself,” President Mahama said.

But in a sharp riposte, the former NPP Chief Scribe asserted that the president has a huge problem if he believes he is faring better in his current position. Speaking to Peacefmonline.com in an exclusive interview, Sir John said the yoke of burden on Ghanaians has become heavier due to the president's incompetence.

"...it appears the President does not understand the magnitude of the job he has on his shoulders...Ghanaians cannot keep quiet over the innumerous promises which are still-born since he assumed the Presidency," he said.

He further pointed out that the myriad cases of corruption coupled with the unstable power supply which is negatively affecting businesses, not excluding the astronomical fuel price hike and utility tariffs, cannot simply be glossed over by Ghanaians as President Mahama wants the country to do.

“If he thinks he is doing better and therefore Ghanaians should not complain, then he has a problem. When he assumed the Presidency, he promised to rid the city off filth within 100 days but apart from the three Northern Regions, the whole country stinks of filth and he doesn’t want us to complain about it?……cholera is killing us and the unstable power supply killing our businesses and the President doesn’t want us to complain? President Mahama should open up and be candid enough to tell Ghanaians the true state of the economy and stop his lying attitude as he is always promising but nothing concrete has been forthcoming. We cannot keep quiet over his gross corruption and his benchmark of pathological lies….of course he can say that to Ghanaians because he is not in their shoes to feel how they are suffering...but sorry, "Bohye Ba" Mahama, we can't keep silent over your incompetence”, he fumed.
