Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Ken Kuranchi has hit back at President John Mahama for telling Ghanaians in United Kingdom that doomsayers nearly crashed Ghanas economy with deliberate figures to disfavor government.

According to him, President Mahama should address the economic situation from the point where the country will be capable of generating revenue locally and minimize importation of commodities.

His comment of Oman Fms Morning Show was in response to President Mahamas interaction with Ghanaians in the United Kingdom to enlighten them on government's policies aimed at boosting the economy and to give them assurance that a lot of the information they digest are deliberately misrepresented to create disfavor for his person and government.

Ken Kuranchie insisted that all the political parties can be victims of economic fundamentals if the government in power does not plan and address them well.

He bemoaned the high importation of rice, tomatoes and other foodstuffs which could have been locally grown, saying it will be difficult for the cedi to appreciate to the point that the President wants it to be.

The Cedi is not being talked down and destroyed because of doomsayers; we have said this many times that our economy needs certain fundamentals to be met. Those economic fundamentals need to be addressed, our importations are too much and now almost all our industries have been converted to churches; we import tomatoes, we used to import Kontomire, pepper, onions. Ghana is a major importer of rice; we have stopped eating cocoyam and resorted to eating rice alone...those economic fundamentals need serious attention, he said.

Grant it that doomsayers are the cause of the cedi depreciation, how many tomatoes cartons is the government producing locally? What we wear, eat and drink are imported products...doomsayers are not the cause of the cedi depreciation but rather he needs to address the economic fundamentals, he advised.
