The Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Mrs Rachael Nana Adjoa Apoh Opoku, has appealed to supporters of political parties to desist from insulting their opponents in pursuit of their parochial interests.

She said insulting opponents, especially adults, is an affront to Ghanaian values.

The MP, who was also former Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, made the appeal when she addressed the Akwambo festival at Gomoa Aboso and Gomoa Abaasa in the Gomoa East District.

She called on supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to let decorum be their watchword by according respect to President John Dramani Mahama, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NPP presidential candidate, and other high-ranking members of other parties to ensure peace and stability in the political arena.

Mrs Opoku said the 2016 presidential and parliamentary campaign should be run devoid of insults or character assassination in order to promote the national democratic dispensation.

She asked the NPP to offer constructive criticism to government.

The Gomoa Central MP said government is doing everything possible to reverse the economic problems confronting Ghanaians.

Mrs Opoku presented 20 bags of cement and GH₵200 to the people of Abaasa to support their developmental projects.

She said one of the Presidential Free Senior High School structures is being constructed at Gomoa Gyaman and would be completed by the end of September.

Mr Yaw Alhasan, Gomoa Abaasa Unit Committee Chairman, who received the cement on behalf of the people, thanked the MP for the kind gesture.
