First National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has assured Ghanaians that the Ghana Medical Association will call off their strike action after the doctors' meeting at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's Flagship programme "Kokrokoo", Mr. Ofosu Ampofo was very optimistic that Ghanaians will receive "good news" from the striking doctors immediately.
Though the Ghana Medical Association held a crucial meeting at Koforidua yesterday, 11th August where members registered their displeasure with government for expressing "bad faith" in their negotiation for better working conditions; the NDC National Vice Chairman stated emphatically that Ghanaians will soon light at the end of the tunnel in the doctors' situation.
According to him, once the doctors' meeting took off at Koforidua which he described as a "region for wise men", surely they will return with a "very wise decision" for all Ghanaians.
“Koforidua is the region for wise men. When you go to Koforidua, God will give you the wisdom to take decision because the wise men came from the East. Once they decided not to go to any other place than Koforidua, I can assure you that they’ll come back from Koforidua with a very wise decision to inure to the benefit of all Ghanaians.”
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who served as Eastern Regional Minister, however appealed to the government to "not take a very fixed position on this matter because in negotiation, it is a give and take affair. The medical Association shouldn’t also take a fixed position.”
