About 29 demonstrators were arrested after Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG), Movement for Change (MC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took to the streets to agitate for a new voters register.
The protest which started peacefully turned bloody when the demonstrators decided to veer off the approved route given by the Ghana Police Service.
Several protestors were injured and whipped including Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the NPP.
Speaking in an interview on PEACE FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Gabby Otchere-Darko narrated to Kwami Sefa Kayi how ‘without any provocation’, he was arrested and whipped mercilessly.
“One police officer pounced on me and started whipping me as if he had orders to do so” he said.
