Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Solomon Nkansah, has said the 2012 election petition which lasted for 8 months, hampered the early completion of 200 community Day Senior High schools promised by President Mahama in 2012.

Solomon Nkansah told Atinkaonline Wednesday that the election petition, which dragged on for eight months, affected the sources of funding for the projects because international donors who wanted to help were not sure about the President’s legitimacy.

He therefore added that projects will take a little more time to complete probably by November 2017.

The party communicator added that between 85 to 100 schools will be completed and handed over to the communities by November this year since the stipulated number is near completion.

He said at most, eleven of the schools will be commissioned within the month of April with one being commissioned in the Volta Region where President Mahama is currently embarking on his Accounting to the people Tour.

Mr. Nkansah entreated the electorate to vote massively for NDC government for President Mahama to have a landslide victory to prevent the NPP’s Nana Addo from filing another election petition at the supreme court.

He noted that voters should endeavour to give President 59% of votes and give Nana Addo 32 % with the other smaller opposition parties grabbing the remaining 8%.

The ruling NDC government in its 2012 manifesto pledged to build 200 Community Day Senior High schools across the country.

The aim of the project is to increase access to secondary education in underprivileged districts as well as improve quality in low performing senior high schools. With six months to go to the polls, it appears the audacious promise may not be fulfilled.
