Acting General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has vowed to stage a 'one-man demo' against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo if he allows former President John Dramani Mahama to keep his Cantonments official residence as part of his retirement package.
According to him, the President "must not allow" any such move whatsoever, since the NDC-led government denied Ex-President Kufour similar benefits.
In an interview on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie', he said he will speak against the move if Nana Addo’s led government accept Mahama’s request.
Former President John Dramani Manama is reported to have requested to be allowed to retain his official bungalow he occupied as Vice President and later President as his ex gratia.
A member of the NDC's Transition Team, Hannah Tetteh reportedly told the media yesterday that Parliament has already given the 'all-clear' signal to the former President to owe the residential facility as part of his end of service benefit – but Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who speaks for the new government's side of the transition team and also MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi, stressed there was a request from President John Mahama, asking permission to keep the residence but a decision had not been reached.
A December 19, 2016 letter signed by the former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah said John Mahama would like the incoming administration to give him the "No 3, Prestige Link, Cantonment together with the adjoining facilities as his official retirement home."
This request has made many critics angry some of whom have cited the law and previous national events as their defence.
The Presidential Transition (Amendment) Act 2016 states the outgoing President is required to vacate his official bungalow one month before swearing-in of the new President. If he fails to do so, the Administrator General is empowered to forcefully evict him.
Two days after the swearing-in the ex-president is yet to vacate the premises only for the December 19 letter to be made public.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that, "in the shortest possible time", the new government will take a decision on the request made by former President Mahama.
But even before the dust could settle on that brouhaha, Founder and former President of the African University College of Education, Kojo Yankah has called on the Akufo-Addo-led administration not to endorse the action saying "The precedence is dangerous and should not be allowed to stand."
However, John Boadu fear the request if granted could inflame passions among the electorates who secured victory for the party in the December 7 polls.

Akuffo addo should not even try or is he also planing to own flag staff house at end of his term Of office? This practice is bad and must not be encourage.I mean it's very bad.
John, we support you and ready to demonstrate against our party leadership if he dares succumb to giving away the residence to Mahama. Mahama and the NDC are looters and this is a clear example of their greediness. Nana should not be a weak leader at all. I voted for him seeing him a strong leader who will fight corruption and prosecute those who have looted the country but if he fails then we will demonstrate. He should not bow to any pressure to pardon those who have looted the country hence his reign will be a miserable one. Ghana will not forgive him if he fails to prosecute SADA, Sole sourcing, Gyeeda, YEP, NSS, Woyome cash etc, etc, We are waiting to see the appointment of the sole prosecutor. I will be happy to see the Omane Boamah, Felix Kwakye, Abrakwa, fiifi Kwettey and the rest of them in jail.
John Boadu who are you deceiving. It is said on this website that the President has already granted the request. I think you're late in staging your demonstration. You should be probably be hitting the ground running now that it has come out that the request has been granted.
John Mahama should have vacated the premises as per the law and later requested for it. He has breach the law.
Don't worry. Nana retiring package will be Mpeduase or Flagstaff house. Bawumia will follow suit till we offer out all our assets to Former Presidents. Ghana should be serious. As president you don't pay Tax exiting also you will get everything Free. why ???
Thank you John, it feels safe to know people like you are close to our president! hw3 Nana should not dare at all, it will break our hearts and personally i dont know how i will recover from the pain, i may never vote for NDC but i would equally choose not to vote for the NPP, we had so much hope that Nana will come and put measures in place that will put fear in leaders from wasting our monies AND STEALING STATE RESOURCES,no matter how well you try to please NDC and present an all inclusive gov't they will still wish you fall. you think they want to be in opposition forever? and you think gifting the house will give you their 44% please paa! sometimes you wake up and just 5ghc to eat is a problem and you can think the whole day and get depressed then some greedy person sits somewhere only thinking of how to get more from such people! Nana should just not get us sad and more angry!
He shd vacate immediately koraa.Nana shdnt allow him stay there.we ll be angry if Nana allows his stay.wats gud fr de gus ...toaso
John Boadu bravoo, we will orgnize more people to suport you from our consituence. Noway
I will support you. John Ford Mahama must move out. He gave out houses to people like Akua Donkor. Why can't he get one for himself? He is very greedy paaaaa.
i think it will be fair for JDM to be relocated. Else that will become a norm in future and all Executive properties of good proximity intended to aid official duties will be full in no time. Lets face reality even without considering corruption or the rule of law
