The Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration has expressed optimism in the prospects of the economy saying the country will soon see signs of economic recovery.
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), prior to the December 7 election, had promised Ghanaians to fix the economy with sound policies.
Minister-designate for Finance Ken Ofori-Atta, speaking to Class News’ presidential correspondent, Kwesi Parker-Wilson, said although there were challenges, government would be committed to the cause of ensuring economic freedom.
“You make commitments and then you work hard towards it and we are committed to it. We did it in 2001 and we will be able to do it again,” he stated.
“The president has put a team together; we are very comfortable with it. I think there is money to be made. We have a lot of revenue generation [but] we are not doing enough. I think some expenses were too much. We can manage that, but more importantly how do we create economic freedom? How do you get people working for themselves? And I think that is our challenge.”
According to him, government will create an enabling environment for economic freedom, “make the macro [economy] a little more stable and we are in this boat together”, adding: “It’s not like we are magicians coming from somewhere to just wave a wand. We have people who are really committed to seeing that our people need release and we can do much better than we have done and if we get along together, we should be able to do that.”

What the minister is not saying is that there will be economic freedom that will give the country 'value for money'. By implication that freedom is not going to be laissez-fair. The freedom will have sensible controls which Ghanaians do not like and this is my worry for the govt. Whatever bad name they deliberately give to the govt it should not change course otherwise confusion and uncertainty will affect all govt policies. Pl minister-elect be careful. Thank you.
Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta is the best choice for this position. I salute ! (we ain't joking kwraaaaa)
