General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says he was extremely shocked at the outcome of the December 7 general elections.
According to him, given the massive infrastructural development undertaken by the Mahama-led administration, they expected nothing but a landslide victory in the polls.
The NDC suffered a humiliating defeat in the elections with majority of its Members of Parliament losing their seats to members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Former President John Mahama polled 4,713,277 votes representing 44.4 percent and President Akufo-Addo polled 5,716, 026 representing 53 percent of the total votes cast. The NPP also won an overwhelming majority of parliamentary seats.
This performance, according to political pundits is the worst in the history of the opposition NDC. The fall out has included trading of accusations and an ongoing blame game among members. The party has since constituted a 13 member committee to investigate what led to their defeat.
But Asiedu Nketia on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday maintained that all party members are to blame for their defeat.
He noted that the committee has been tasked to diagnose the real reason for the defeat to enable them correct their wrongs and forge ahead in unity.
The NDC scribe however said the NDC must be commended for conceding defeat in spite of the technical challenges in the elections.
“Democracy is about the conduct of the loser but we as a ruling party accepted defeat because we respect the state institutions” he added.
General Mosquito urged all political parties to take a cue from the NDC since “there is no perfect elections nowhere”.

An ant cannot call a fight with lion. We NDC are very peaceful. Foreign fighters cannot withstand our storm. Go and read the history of all the kingdoms in Ghana and you will find it.
John Mahama said it is an exercise of mediocrity to talk about infrastructure project as achievement. Here we are with NDC using infrastructure to deceive us. You think Ghanaians are fuuuuuuuuuuuls. We dont want deception and double standards that is why we booted NDC out. Next time practice what you preach
You had no choice than to concede defeat. After over one million votes margin what could you do otherwise. Foreingn fighters were prepared for you guys, you knew that is int it?
