Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, Hon. Alex Afenyo Markins has said former President John Dramani Mahama has a choice of where he wants to stay after his term of office.
According to him what has rather brought about the current fracas concerning the state bungalow is for him to select an official accommodation befitting an ex-president.
Speaking to UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ host, Yaa Konama during a panel discussion, Hon. Afenyo Markins stressed “the Transition Team for 2012 and the laws of parliament have no space in their current laws that a former president can occupy the residence in which he has stayed in . . . The accommodation does not become his absolute property after staying in it for years; the place was formerly a state property belonging to the Cocoa Board that he changed into his official space.”
According to him, the property still belongs to the state and it is the same entity that should decide whether he still befits to occupy the place.

This completely wrong. This particular building is reserved for the sitting Vice President.. he cant choose this one.
Mr. Lawyer get your facts right and please reason before blowing hot air. If he had chosen to stay at the Australian House would it have been okay. He cannot chose the house/property but a preferred location. Anyway why should Presidents be treated as 'SPECIAL' that they are accorded all this stuff? Can we not take cue from the U.S. or the Western countries for once. President Obama had to look for an appropriate place to live in so what stops our Presidents to do the same.
No he has right to choose the town he wants the house to be but not right to choose a particular house
Why does he not choose the flagstaff house then - that will be befitting of an ex-president. Some people speak and you wonder which part of their bodies they're using to communicate.
LET HIM GO FOR AKUA DONKOR'S OWN, SOME MP'S .
Afenyo ***barred word***, Mahama has the right to choose where he wants to live but J. A. Kuffour does not have the right to own a retirement home which he is entitled to but the NDC refuse to provide.
@araba I believe your sister was among those sacrificed. In anyway I believe since Ex presidents have the right to choose their residence even if they choose to ask for the seat of government that will be okay by the state. Abi?
