The creation of a ministry for railways development by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is superfluous, the former deputy minister of transport, Joyce Bawa-Mogtari has said.
President Nana Akufo-Addo argued the creation of the portfolio will transform the sector. He thus nominated the Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, Joe Ghartey as its Minister-designate.
But Mrs. Bawa-Mogtari thought otherwise, stating during an interview on Accra-based Class FM Thursday that the ministry could have been placed “under the ministry of Transport.”
She went further to explain that the move was not economically viable as there are only two companies serving directly in the sector; the Railways Development Authority and the Railway Company Limited.
“I do hope that there is a good reason [for creating the new ministry] other than just creating jobs for appointees or jobs for people,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Railway Workers Union welcomed the creation of the Ministry.
According to its Secretary, Goodwill Ntamah, the move would create loads of jobs for Ghanaians.
“…The president has done well with the creation of the railway ministry. The minister who has also been designated knows much about the sector, he knows the history and the challenges confronting the sector and the workers. We the workers of the railways know him very well and, so, I am happy that he is the one who has been designated to handle the sector,” he said.

Madam a.k.a "NDC is in a comfortable lead". What do you know about governance Madam? Sh...ut up there.NPP is not like NDC they do not PLAN TO FAIL. Long Live Ghana short Leave the opposition Leaders with the Bad mindset them dey CARRY.
So even in defeat NDC's babies with sharp teeth can't respect other people's opinions and decisions? I would like to let Joyce to know that John Mahama and NDC put all their business plans and opinions and money before the people of Ghana and all these were rejected by Ghanaians. What happened last Saturday was a clear indication that Ghanaians have given Nana Addo and NPP a very clear mandate to let us know how they want to govern the country for the next four years. 30-year old Joyce has no clue on how to govern a country. She was just lucky to have been added to the political equation of the country by Mahama's cronyzm. Was she not the one who said that Mahama was in a comfortable lead on the 9th of December when she knew that NDC and Mahama had completely lost the election? Enough of propaganda because we are fed up.
Look Joyce, the NPP do not care what your opinion is. They are focused to work. What were you able to achieve in the railway sector during your tenure of office.
Eii still in a comfortable lead Mogtari lol back and watch Nana Addo with the help of God revamp our rail system
The usual NDC propaganda still at work. They will never see good reason in anything. Madam, kindly learn to think outside the box, okay! Gradually, you guys are becoming irrelevant unless you start criticizing constructively.
