Atik Mohammed has defended the Joe Ghartey Committee set up by the Speaker of Parliament to probe the bribery allegation against some members of the House.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed wondered why critics think the representation of some members on the Committee will be a conflict of interest.

According to him, the critics have no point because he strongly believes the Committee will do execute their mandate without fear or favour.

There’s no conflict of interest. They’re Parliamentarians. They have honour to protect and they will work to help Ghana and all that…I didn’t see and I still don’t see any conflict of interest. I’ve faith that they will do a good work. They’ll do that which will bring honour to the name of Parliament and to Ghanaians.”

Though not intending to preempt the Committee, Atik Mohammed however held that the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Appointments Committee Joe Osei Owusu and Minority Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak; persons at the center of the bribery allegation, may be vindicated.

He further called on the Committee not to spare any person found guilty but rather give them the necessary punishment which includes expulsion from the Legislative House.

If it turns out that all that they said about Boakye Agyarko, Osei Owusu and Muntaka; if it turns out not to be true, that maximum sanction should be given to them. Because they no longer would have what it takes to be Members of Parliament.”
