Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has justified President Nana Addo’s appointment of some 110 ministers including deputies, to serve in his government.
According to him, the best way to evaluate the Akufo-Addo government is on the basis of how they deliver on their promises and not on the size of the government.
According to him, even though the size of the ministerial appointments is huge, the end will justify such appointments.
“I know at the end of the day, the end will justify the inclusion,” the Suame MP stated on the floor of parliament.
He further urged the Appointments Committee to work expeditiously during the vetting.
“Having said that, Mr. Speaker, I chose my words advisedly. I will urge the Appointments Committee to work expeditiously.”
President Akufo-Addo on recently nominated 50 deputies and 4 others to serve as Ministers of State at the presidency and ministries, bringing his total number of ministers to 110, the highest in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.
The President has since come under intense criticism since the appointment.
While some have argued that the decision will lead to bureaucracy, others believe that it will only worsen corruption.
But the President on Friday defended his decision, saying the unprecedented problems confronting Ghana demand a large government.
“I don’t believe that my government in the Fourth Republic has big numbers in view of the swollen challenges,” the President said in an interview with the Daily Graphic and Ghana Television.”
The President reiterated that the initial justification from that the weak nature of the economy required a competent army.

AS A GENERAL ON THE BATTLE FIELD, A PRESIDENT TAKES DECISIONS WHICH WILL YIELD RESULTS. THAT IS HIS STRATEGY. WE VOTED FOR HIM TO DELIVER. THIS IS THE SIZE HE THINKS HE CAN ACHIEVE HIS VISION. LET'S GIVE HIM THE BENEFIT OF THE DECISION. BY THE WAY,WHEN CONSTITUENCIES ARE INCREASED, THE EXTRA MPS, DO THEY HAVE ANY FINANCIAL DRAIN ON THE NATIONAL PURSE?LEAVE THE MAN TO DO HIS WORK.
NPP id.iots, "Delivery" at what cost? Suddenly people whom this nation has spent million of cedis educating, have refused to reason. You cannot talk about delivery without looking at how much it is costing the nation to delivery.
Please NDC-propagandist, do not let it looks as if the President is only creating Jobs for the NPP Loyalist only for their loyalty sake. Mind you a lot of hard working NPP gurus have also refused appointment from the President. They prefer working for the Party to any ministeral appointment. We should be mindful, as per NPP manifesto, that the President has insisted, and indeed, been consitent about his Vision of transforming Ghana from Gugisberg type of economy, exportation of our raw natural resources, to that of value added industrial and productive economy. Therefore he needs all hands on board and not only from his so called NPP Loyalist but also pivate Investors from everywhere in the world. People argue that we have instutitions in place which can help him archieve his goals, all things being equal, this argument could hold. But the institutions have been there and new created in our previous Administrations and the results are there to see. The President keeps on saying that, you can't keep on doing the same thing all the time and expect different results. If we flashed a little back we would realize and appreciate that President Kufour comparatively increased his numbers and he achieved better results than others. If you like you could take that as my case study, but nevertheless, hindsight had equally borne me out.
We will end up paying for this so we shall complain. Do you think NDC would have been voted out if they LISTENED to us? We shall see. Foooooooooollish politicians. We shall see.
