The second deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has revealed that, he has since his childhood, dreamed to be President of Ghana.
According to him, his basic school teachers are aware of this long-nursed dream.
Speaking to the media at Takpo in the Upper West region, the Nadowli-Kaleo lawmaker said he is confident people who know him will not be surprised if he joins the race to lead the NDC in 2020.
“Won’t you be happy if I contest,” he responded to a question that sought his interest in the position.
He continued: “But for me, if you even ask my teacher M.A Seidu he will tell you that my dream from childhood has been to become a president so people won’t be surprised, but you will be happy to see me contest the presidency”. This appears to be the first time the experienced lawmaker is being clear about his presidential ambitions.
It comes on the back of the counsel by former President John Mahama for members of the opposition party to be cautious of their utterances and concentrate on building the structures of the party instead of who becomes the flagbearer.
Some members of the party have called for an early congress in order to put the leadership hullabaloo to an end.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bagbin noted that he is not surprised by the conducts of the vigilante groups associated with the New Patriotic Party following their victory in the 2016 elections.
“This is not new to some of us who have been in the system for some time. The NPP raised the hopes of their supporters during the campaigns and so they were anticipating the sacking of NDC members so that they will take over but that is not happening. So it will stop but it will take time”.

It is good that it is a dream. Tw e aaaaaaa. What sense at all do you have?
Hahahaha I laugh enter the lavatory. Ndc mentioning the name of God?you think you can mock with him?look at how he has disgraced the ndc because of your arrogance, insult and the impunity shown to the men of God in Ghana and now ndc is using the same name to ask sombody if he is God? Joey is saying the mind of God that ndc will be like the CPP struggling in the wilderness for power. Who he is going to vote for an ndc presidential candidate apart from those brainwashed to hate and jealous and are in despair but can't see? Ndc keep on dreaming of ever coming to power, not on the watch of the good people of Ghana. Bagbin just dreamt it's not reality something you thought of In sleep is not serious so Ghanaians must just discard it. Ndc has another arrogant person called Spio Garbrah and they think this man who Koku Anyidoho said he got his honorary Doctorate from a small college in the USA could do the trick for them. Somebody ask where is Spio Garbrah's constituency even the ndc don't know his constituency and you want such a man to lead you this shows how they lack the men and women.Ndc why are you dumping Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur? Why are you not talking of the man was he not the Vice president like the late Vice President Ali Mahama? What is good for the late Vice President Aliu Mahama is equally good for Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur. If ndc doesn't give PK the chance to lead them God the Most High Will punish them without end. Everybody knows NPP presidential candidature is competitive but the ndc is automatic so give it to the man what has changed? ,don't use him and dump him,PK is the next after John Mahama and if they fail then ndc must expect 1% from each Akan region.
another selfish eddddiotic northerner. What has he done for his own home constituency. No AKan wants another fooooooolish parasitic northerner to come and tell us what to do with our resources. Go and be president in the public latrine at nadowli. Eddddddiotic p3penin
@Joey or whatever your name is, are you GOD? if God say YES nobody can say NO. Even me who is not into politics, if GOD say I would become a politician and lead this great Nation it would come to pass. Everything is possible in the presence of GOD. So stop this God forbid because you are not God.
Alban I think you are a presidential material but I think at the moment Spio is your party's best bet. Interesting times ahead for ndc. Aye huhuuhu. Eb3 y3 butubutu. Observers are watching. For the first time in ndc there will be a real Competition for the presidential candidate's slot.
Ad for dreaming, we all dream so keep your dream to yourself or else those of us who are Josephs will interpret your dream for you.
Oh yes! It's a dream and it FOREVER remain a dream. Yawn.... Next....
Dreaming of wanting to be president is not the issue. The issue is whether you can make any positive impact on the life of your deprived and marginalized people after becoming president is the issue.Sending the people salt, maize flour, keta school boys, maggi, used clothing, slippers, cutlasses, roofing sheets, gallons of pito and party t shirts cannot bring them out of poverty.Currently your region,ie upper west region is the poorest in Ghana and the your district nadowli-kaleo will be among the poorest of the poor(I stand for correction). The average northerner is very intelligent academically/theory but when it comes to making an impact, they are found wanting,at times they even pull each other down, the other problem with the northerner is that they dont want their kinsmen to reach where they have reached in life, no wonder some highly placed northerners in very big positions on retirement from active life die of hunger and neglect from their own kinsmen,my advice to Bagbin is try to bring the young men in his area to high standards in the area of education and business so that come tomorrow they will stand by your side, i like your matter but this is the challenge you may face in your presidential ambitions, you must be able to have a lot of stones in your own house before you go out to start throwing at others. We are watching.Good luck
I belive Mr Bagbin would be a competitive presidential candidate. But because of people like Mr John Mahama, the odds are strongly against him as a "Northerner". John Mahama's regime left no doubt in the minds of people (who disdainfully held low opinion of "Northerners") that indeed, the Northerner is half-baked. Most of the Northerners who had the opportunity of serving in the last government, didn't quite represent the Northern Region well. Perhaps among the few Northerners who so far still prove exceptions are Dr. Benjamin Kumbour, Mr Martin Amidu and Mr Atik Mohammed. Almost all of the Northerners I know in political circles exhibit one kind of eccentricity or another. This sounds like a sweeping generalization, since I know many other Northerners outside of politics who are highly successful and very great individuals. Thus, I'm at a loss as to why too many of them do "mess up" as public officers. Mahama himself knows he dipped the Northern image, and that's why, I guess he cunningly dared the NPP to make Dr Bawumia Nana's automatic successor. Obviously he hates to pass as the last Northerner president.
You can continue dreaming. You think after John Mahama we will entrust the country into the hands of another Northerner?God Forbid!
