Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, says his criticisms of the style of leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama were not in bad faith but just in a quest to drum home something that was amiss with the party.
He said though some elements within the party disagreed with the manner in which it was done, he meant no harm but just issuing early warning signs of a looming danger that could befall the party if nothing was done.
The Nadwoli-Kaleo lawmaker who is one of the longest serving Members of Parliament (MPs) described the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) defeat at shocking indicating that he only anticipated that some of his colleagues were not going to return to the chamber but not that of the presidency.
“For the president losing yes it was shocking. What we saw and the experience in the 2016 election, there was no way a prophet could have convinced anybody President John Dramani Mahama was going to lose the elections. You realized that my speeches at that time were focused on the Members of Parliament because I realized we were going to lose our numbers but not to this extent…to me it was a shock”, he disclosed.
“What I did was to give early warning signs, ring the alarm bells that something was going wrong. In spite of our intellectual wealth, we still needed cool heads, Knowledge and experience that was lacking in the leadership of the party but some people understood me wrongly, a few things one were done on my outcry but that was not enough”, he added.
According to him, his earlier concerns were meant to avert what befell the party at the polls saying “That is why I came out early enough but some people misunderstood me. The blame game is expected, but we are trying to reorganize and I can assure you we will bounce back in 2020.”

Sometimes I sit down and don't understand ndc. What makes them think they can win elections in Ghana? Kuffuor won 2001 elections with about 8% margin when ndc was in power,he won the first round with less than the 50+1 and then went for the 2nd round to 52%, 2008 Nana Addo won the first round short of the 50+1% and then a die wofie oye turned the whole game to Prof. Atta Mills to win that election with a margin of 40,000. 2012 we all saw the dishonesty of Afari Djan which led to his moving his bowels at the court room during the election petition with a lot of electoral fraud which ended in 5-4 against the NPP. With the ste*ling and corruption all over mahama's administration and the arrogance and impunity of his appointees and the his family having the upper hand in that governance and treating Ghanaians as ndc owned the nation what made you people think Central,Western ,Ashanti,BA, Eastern and with the greater Accra with majority being settlers will give ndc the chance to misbehave in the country? Ndc can take some regions for granted in Ghana but not the 5 Akan regions. We know what is good for ourselves and our people, and we prefer to be taught how to fish than giving us fish. Collapsing our businesses and making our youth unemployed will never win ndc elections in Ghana,Get that in your minds. We shall never allow you to take us for granted. We don't care much about giving positions to some of our people because that do not feed us but we care about jobs. You can't eat your cake and have it,we are the majority. I don't know how ndc is coming back to power with their press conferences and bragging, ndc should know and take it that Akan chiefs can't force their subjects thumbs to vote for the ndc. Whether you bring Ofosu Ampofo or Julius Debrah as your chairman ndc will never see the light. Put Spio Garbrah there as your candidate and he will get 35% that man has no constituency unless some greedy people try to attach him to a constituency. Why would you leave PK a son of Moree in the Central region for someone else? If it had been the NPP you would see them opening their noses and mouth wide making press conferences. Ndc is satanic.
@God dey, Are you for real? Bagbin envies who? Really?? Oh NDC. I pity you all. You are aversive to advise and it is pride which will eventually destroy your so called party. What goes up must come down. Who Jah bless? Bagbin is not blessed so he is jealous of JM. Yooooooo
Jealousy go shame bagabin. you can never be like John mahama you and spio, martin amidu etc alll envy the man. Hey hey hey, WHO JAH BLESSS NO ONE CURSE!!!!!!!!!!!! GO AND BURN THE SEA
