Peacefmonline.com can confirm that Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, brother of former President John Dramani Mahama, has been asked to pay a sum of GHC 12.7 million to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
He is to make the payment by Monday, 8th May 2017.
Two days ago, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama was picked up by the EOCO to answer questions over some dud cheques he issued to the Customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the Tema Port to clear some heavy duty equipment he had imported.
It was also alleged that he was also questioned on some fraudulent deals he may have made as claimed by the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyepong.
Following the interrogation, he was ordered by the EOCO to submit his passport to the State investigative body on Wednesday, April 19.
NDC Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, George Nartey later told Class FM in an interview that Ibrahim's passport has not been seized.
He was categorical that Ibrahim still has his passport in his (Ibrahim's) possession because he is not a "flight risk".
In latest developments, Mr. Mahama is to pay up the 12.7 million cedis and the amount represents duty for goods he cleared at the Tema Port with dud cheques in 2015 plus interest.
The interest on the amount was worked by the Ghana Revenue Authority.
The order was communicated to Mr. Mahama on Friday morning, April 21, 2017 at the EOCO head office.

oooooh EOCO as Ghanaians are awaiting for someone to drink poison u just spoiled everything just like that? I suspected the NPP gurus. They received some of the money for campaign so they pass someones back to do the case ***barred word***. Eiii politicians'' imagine is an ordinary poor person like Nsawam straight.
Because your brother is a president it means you can do anything you like in the country and tell people you are rich, if we all do what you did we can be rich too, but am happy you are paying with interest, going to jail without paying the money is ***barred word***.
so,had it not a change in government, ibrahim mahama would have been bullying custom officer because his brother was the president at expense of nhia, school feeding etc.
MR MP WHERE ARE YOU PLS WE ARE WAITING FOR YOUR TO DIE ASSIN MP
lets find out why the cheques bounced.
This is a crime against the state and he must suffer for it.
We live in a country where someone goes to jail for stealing a goat. Another owes this amount and all we get is this? Then we talk of equality before the law. Massa some people are more important than others in this country. Simple..
Issuing a bad check is a crime punishable by law. Ibrahim Mahama is getting easy because his brother is a former president. He must put be charged and tried in a law court for issuing a bad check. Simplicita! The custom officers who allowed him to clear his goods from the port whilst he still owes the GRA should be punished as well. When an ordinary Ghanaian imports a car into the country and is not able to pay duties on the car, the car auctions off. He is allowed to give the GRA a dud check and clear his car. Why was Ibrahim Mahama's equipment not auctioned off when he was always issuing bad checks in 2015 (It happened 14 times not just once!). Everybody must be equally treated before the law.
Sheer jealousy.
Steeeeealers, akoronfour, fiafitor, Mahama and co.
