The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has promoted the late Captain Adam Mahama posthumously to the Rank of Major with effect from 29th May 2017, the day Major Adams Mahama was murdered.
The President also announced a 500,000.00 Ghana Cedis Memorial trust fund to support the Widow and her Children.
The board of trustees for the fund will be chaired by the Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul.
The President has personally donated Ghc 50,000.00 to the trust fund.
He has also promised that a National Monument will be built and named after Major Maxwell Adams Mahama to serve as a memorial in his honour.
The President disclosed all this when he paid a visit to the wife and family of the late Major Mahama to console them.
The President also says he has issued express instructions to the Interior Minister to ensure that all those who were involved with the murder of Major Adams Mahama will be tried and brought to justice.
He asked the widow to take consolation in the fact that she married a hero and that the whole country stands by her and her children. The President also ordered that Major Maxwell Adams Mahama be given a State Burial.
President Akufo-Addo again declared that the late Captain Mahama will receive state burial to honour his effort in the fight against galamsey operations in the country.
Late Capt. Mahama To Be Given Sate Burial; Govt Sets Up GHc 500,000 Memorial Trust Fund
On Monday, June 5, 2017, Cabinet held its regular fortnightly meeting at which, amongst others, issues bordering on the tragic killing of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama were discussed.
At the meeting, the following decisions were reached, regarding the late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama:
1. The President directed that the late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama be given a full state burial, to be held at the forecourt of the State House, Accra, on Friday, June 9, 2017.
2.The President, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, posthumously promoted the late Captain Mahama from the rank of Captain to Major, upon the recommendation of the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. O.B Akwa.
3.The President directed that an appropriate monument be erected in honour of the late Captain. This is in fulfillment of the wishes and appeals made by his family in the aftermath of his death to the government.
4.The President also directed the setting up of a Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama Memorial Trust Fund, with a seed money of GH¢500,000 purposely to cater for his wife and children. The President has personally donated GH¢50,000 to the Fund.
