Soon no CEO of any State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) will earn more than the President, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has hinted, saying a rationalisation process will be undertaken to cut salaries and allowances of CEOs whose remuneration is above that of the President.
Addressing a policy and governance forum on governance and strategic policy for the Civil Society Organisation sector, Mr Ofori-Atta said: “We currently have a mirage of remuneration schedule that we don’t quite understand.”
“I think we need to begin to rationalise it to make it clear where remuneration ends so that it does not go beyond the presidency,” he said.
Mr Ofori-Atta said some of the CEOs of the SOEs earn more than thrice the salary of the president.
Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who was also at the event said the salaries earned by some of the CEOs are not in conformity with their productivity.
“A recent report by the Finance Ministry covering about 18 SOEs indicated that they made a net loss of ¢791 million in addition to having received loans and financial support.
“This is no longer sustainable and it is your responsibility to come to the table in the course of this forum with solutions to it,” Dr Bawumia added.

So what at all was wrong with Mahama superintending of these unspeakable rot. In fact, Mahana should be prosecuted and not just to talk/lament about his corruption, abuse of office and the other negatives as is done in every civil society which we see and hear of all the time. Any law protecting Presidents from prosecution must be expunged from our books to make them more accountable and this nonsens recurring after the removal of one party from power and especially so with ndc all the time. Are we not shouting our voices hoarse every now and then that all Ghanaians are equal before the law? Graduated thieve* and specialized liars.
If cutting down salary becomes a problem use this simple trick: All SOEs must use not more than 30% of the profit for salaries. The more you work profitably, the more you earn.
Excellent news. They should also check those CEOs and Directors who retire on their salaries.
I think this is the best news I've heard in decades. This is what governments should be doing, correcting the errors in a country and standardizing the governance system by rationalizing remuneration of state workers. In fact the government should also begin to espouse policies that will make all this CEO's of state enterprises apply for their jobs with their business plans. Good move Mr President.
This is my first time all the comments contributers are all in support.... Thank God our country will work again....
Good news ,this government is tackling the important issues we have always expected to be dealt with. The previous gov instead of tackling important issues was only concerned about infrastructure cos its the easiest any leader can do. Kudos, Nana Addo, Bawumaia and co
Ohh! YAWEH may this move come to pass in Jesus name, amen!!! Thumbs up for the NPP.
Fantastic idea.. Why should the governor of the bank of Ghana chop money pass our president
Great!!! great!! great! news
I supported this idea. This is very for Ghana. The the president is the CEO of Ghana and the other CEOs are under the bigger CEO .So why should they earn more than the big man who works more than them.We can get more money to use wisely for the country. Please this should be done now.Nana Addo God helps you to live long.
