Teenage pregnancy and drug abuse is fast gaining grounds in second cycle institutions across the country following the hasty implementation of president Akufo Addo’s free Senior High School policy, The aL haJJ’s investigations have uncovered.
Disturbing reports across the country reaching this paper indicate that some free SHS beneficiaries leaving in rented apartments due to lack of space in most boarding houses have now become bed warmers of hungry sex-seeking men whilst the boys have taken to drug abuse.
“The girls have started getting pregnant and the boys too have started smoking wee,” a house master in one of the Senior High Schools in the Brong Ahafo region told this paper on strict condition of anonymity.
Narrating the dire conditions in second cycle institutions in the country, a headmaster of one of the schools in the Northern region also told the al-hajj; “the problem here is that the number of students GES tasked us to admit into the boarding houses was way beyond our capacity. We had no choice than to admit them and when the space at the boarding houses was full, we asked the rest to find alternative accommodation in town.”
The headmaster continued “this student through their parent’s teamed up to rent apartments in town. And that is where they leave and come to school every day. I have personally visited some of them and it is sad that in some of the rooms, you’ll see as many as 10 girls or boys in one room. This problem is across the country.
Some of the schools can admit only 200 students into the boarding house but they were asked to admit 400, others that can take 300 have been asked to admit 700. Where are they going to find space for the rest? Meanwhile some of these students are coming from far places”.

I think you are being lazy and doesn't want to go out there and search for stories that will bring positive change to the society but what you can only always do is to sit in the comfort of your office and write about things that are always worth not reading. Why? Students were staying outside campus when they were paying huge sums of money for education! I am a teacher in one of biggest second cycle institutions in Bolgatanga and we have had this problems since Adam. Don't always write something that can't get you votes!
And peace fm editor on this page posted this non''sense.
you said right, intelectual dishonesty cum stuuupiddity!
WHAT CHILDISH PUBLICATION! FREE SHS COMMENCED LAST MONTH AND SINCE THEN THESE PREGNANCIES? OH HOW FOOUUULISH THESE NDC GURUS CAN BE!!!
A pile of gabbage-period
This kind of write ups should not be posted here.
This reportage is speculative and bogus! I cannot just understand the take of this journalist in spewing this news across. Can't we appreciate a good initiative and help to solidify it? After all, those benefitting from the free SHS are all Ghanaians and we must be happy the monies which we should have been spending on them could be put into other good usage. If there is something fundamentally wrong with the wholesale manner in which people are benefitting from the programme, we can have a consensus going forward to streamline the policy for it to be very effective. Condemning it and inventing stories to make it look detestable is wrong and unpatriotic!
Please someone remind me ooo; when did the free SHS came to been? Eeiii! instead of supporting this good move, look at what some group of people are painting the policy. SHAAAAAAAAME! AGAINST GO DIE
what a shock. is it ignorance or hatred? who is this house master who gave you the information? i can't think far. when did the free SHS start? this story is a big lie. peacefm please before you allow people to post such stories on your site verify. this only discredit your network. Free SHS all the way. i believe this will virtually get rid of all the street kids who claim they came to Accra to hustle because there was no money to further their education after JHS.
it will be disclaimer too. smh
