The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formed an 11-member team to monitor the re-organisation and re-registration exercise of members across all the branches of the party in the country.

The setting up of the monitoring team forms part of the implementation of the Professor Kwesi Botchwey Committee’s report.

Having followed through with the recommendations of the Professor Kwesi Botchwey’s report by embarking on a healing and reconciliation tour led by the Council of Elders, the party is now ready for all the 10 regions to begin solid work for the branch re-registration and reorganisation exercise.

The branch reorganisation and re-registration has become necessary because it is obvious that during the last election, the branches did not function as they ought to have been, hence the need for the reorganisation.

Monitoring team

Chaired by Mr Kwame Peprah, the team is made up of 10 other members from the Council of Elders and Functional Executive Committee.

According to a statement signed by Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, a member of the Council of Elders, at its emergency meeting held last Monday, the elders received briefing from the Functional Executive Committee of the party on the ongoing reorganisation and re-registration exercise of members being carried out across all the branches.

The statement enjoined branch, constituency and regional executives, as well as the National Executive Committee and election directors at all levels to give their full cooperation towards this important exercise.

Biometric registration

The biometric registration was intended to create greater and broader participation in the party’s internal election processes, but it came with certain challenges that did not inure to the benefit of the party, hence the decision to undertake a new registration exercise to create a more credible and acceptable database for the party.

After the branches, constituencies, regional and national reorganisation, the party will then move for the national elections to elect national officers, after which the stage will be set to elect the flag bearer for the 2020 election.
