Member of Parliament (MP) for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa constituency in the Central region, Hon. Anthony Effah says the introduction of free SHS did not start the challenges in Ghana’s educational sector.
The Free Senior High Schools [SHS] policy started in September 2017 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government to meet their foremost and most welcomed 2016 campaign promise.
“Challenges in Ghana’s current educational sector did not happen with free SHS or President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government,” he stated.
According to him “the best we can do for this government and our state is to believe in the policies of the government towards the success of the approach.”
Hon. Anthony Effah added that the President has good conscience towards this country especially future generations, therefore his strive to implement the free SHS strategy on good grounds.
Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ show, he pointed out that his government is not the first and will not be the last that will not completely fulfill the exact words used in their campaign manifesto, as some opposition parties have accused his party of not keeping to the actual words they promised on their campaign platforms.

"believe in the policies of the government towards the success of the approach.” These are the NPP MP's who are smarter than the NDC? Ghana for us.With this shallow thinking you think the free shs will work?
IT IS UNWISEEEEE TO THINK THAT WE CAN BEGIN FREE SHS ONLY WHEN WE HAVE FINISHED SOLVING ALL THE PROBLEMSSS IN OUR EDUCATION SECTOR. PROBLEMSSSS IN EDUCATION IN GHANA JUST LIKE IN ANYWHERE CAN NEVER BE TOTALLY RESOLVEDDDD, NO MATTER WHAT EDUCATION SYSTEM WE ADOPT. IT IS VERY GOOD APPROACH FOR NPP TO BRING ABOUT THE FREE SHS. IT WILL HELP GHANA TO DEVELOP FAST IN MANY AREAS OF NATIONAL INTEREST. THE ARGUMENT OF NDC THAT OTHER PROBLEMSSSSS IN EDUCATION SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED BEFORE SHS IS SIMILAR TO THE ARGUMENTS THAT BENEFACTORS TO THE POOR SHOULD DO SO ONLY WHEN THEY HAVE NO NEEDS OF THEMSELVES TO TAKE CARE OF OR PREACHERS SHOULD BECOME SAINTS BEFORE THEY COULD PREACH AGAINST EVIL IN THE WORLD. SUCH ARGUMENTS, IF ADHERE TO, WOULD RENDER EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD INCAPABLE TO DO ANY GOOD.
