Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu says former Zimbabwean President, Robert Gabriel Mugabe did not only “disgrace” his country but the entire leadership of the continent for over staying his presidency.
Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu who recalled how “lavish” Zimbabwe was during his working visit to the south central African country in the 80’s noted that the oldest dictator president in the world ruined the country with his style of leadership.
“I have worked in Zimbabwe during 1988/89/90. Zimbabwe then could be compared to some foreign countries. After going there after year 2000 I was very sad. In terms of infrastructure, bad road network, telephone services not working . . . it was really sad, lack of potable water and I asked myself where am I, all thanks to Robert Mugabe," he said.
“Zimbabwe was the bread basket of the southern African region . . . But it was hard for them to even feed themselves . . . What kind of country is that. It was a worrying situation and a disgrace to Africa,” he added.
The Minority leader was discussing Robert Mugabe’s end of presidency after Zimbabwe’s speaker of parliament announced his resignation on Tuesday.
The surprise announcement came as lawmakers debated an impeachment motion against the 93-year-old leader in a joint sitting of parliament.
Mr. Mugabe had previously refused to resign despite last week’s military takeover and days of protests. What triggered the moves to oust Mr. Mugabe, who is regarded as an African independence hero turned despot, was his dismissal of one of his Vice Presidents, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
That move was seen as an attempt to position Grace Mugabe to continue a Mugabe dynasty of power- This prompted the military to step in and place Mr. Mugabe under house arrest, in events that stopped short of an outright coup de tat.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’ the NPP guru said even though Mugabe did some good things in his country “his decision to die as a president and handover to his wife was his downfall.”
“It’s sad for him and a disgrace not only to the people of Zimbabwe but the whole of Africa. We love power too much,” he told host Kwasi Aboagye.

How long have you been an mp?

@ YES,YOU SOCIALIST BOYS AND GIRLS.OH! MY FRIEND TRY TO THINK BETWEEN THE LINES OF MY ARGUEMNET.KWAME NKRUMAH TOOK OUR LANDS BACK FOR US BY ATTAINING INDEPENDENCE FOR US OTHERWISE THE COLONIAL MASTERS WILL HAVE TAKEN ALL OUR LANDS JUST AS IN ZIMBABWE.WHERE THEY NOT THE SAME COLONIAL MASTERS IN ZIMBABWE?
no prophet is loved by his own people. it is only after strangers recognize his worth before he is accepted by his own people who had previously abandoned him. Speak to Jesus Christ of Nazareth and he will tell you his experience when everyone was shouting crucify him, crucify him. So Mugabe is not an exception. He will forever remain a hero. In Ghana people are trying hard to give national recognition to uncles and grandfathers when their contributions to the nation cannot be compared to the success of Mugabe yet the same people condemning Mugabe are championing the course.
Mugabe, like Nkrumah and Gadaffi, is Freedom Fighter, Pan Africanist but at the same time dictator, tyrant and suppressive leader. He had to be removed from power by force because he had no respect for veritable democracy. Outsiders who never experience the suppression of his regime might find him to be a hero but his own people who bore the brunt of his wickedness see him as evil. Mugabe and leaders of their kindddd can never be heroes. Heroes are not just people who to pick up guns or set up motion to take powers from others and turn to become oppressive more than the powers they have usurped. Heroes are people who lead people to to freedom and set up system that sustain and promote that that freedom. In this case Mugabe, Nkruma, Ghadafi or any of their kinddd can never be heros in true sense of the word. Few example of Heroes are Nyerere, Mandela, Kuffuor, Mbeki, and several others. Even Houphouët-Boigny is not a Hero. I understand why somebody once refer to Mahama as not being smart. It is a serious blunder to praise Mugabe at this time when his removal has attracted so much support at home and across the world.
This man is a ***barred word*** to have said what he said. So he thinks there is democracy in Ghana my foot. What Mugabe achieved for his people not your KWAME Nkrumah is comparable. He succeeded to get back their lands stolen by the white people and Zimbabwe people will always be grateful. With all the economic sanctions, Zimbabwe is more beautiful and neat than your Ghana where plantain and yams are sold in the middle of highways.
well, l don't think there is nothing wrong with loving power, it becomes wrong when power is used to bully people. This was exactly what Mugabe was doing.
***barred word*** fish insulting tilapia, aaahbah kyei mensah, but you are suame mogabe or, anyway you telling us to force you to resign in 2020, thank you for leading the way for your resignation. you started school with nana addo, addo kuffou, JH mensah, akwaesi adjei, osafo maafo, dr kofi apraku etc on the NPP side and still you havnt graduated, well either you a .... student or you a...., we hope you will graduate in 2020 or be forced to resign like you look alike in zimbabwe
SEE ANOTHER I-DI- OT OF NO MEMORANDUM OF AN MP
Zimbabwe was plagued with sanctions from the imperialist forces hence the deterioration in the economy which he finds. Unlike Ghana who continue to sell our gold mines, our land and other mineral deposits to foreigners the Old man stood his grounds and secured the land for his people. Today the Gold deposit at Obuasi is not ours because some few people have their stomach filled and the land was taken away.
