Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid has said the youth in Ghana can succeed “even if the devil is President of Ghana.”
According to him, the youth primarily need to persevere and be determined to succeed instead of seeking greener pastures in other countries like Libya or in Europe.
He suggested that bad leadership and a corresponding poor economic condition was not a good enough reason to undertake such deadly voyage.
Mustapha Hamid’s comment comes on the back of the global wave over modern slavery involving black Africans in Libya.
Reports indicate that victims of the dehumanizing practice including Ghanaians, Ethiopians, Sudanese and Nigerians who left their countries to seek greener pastures in Libya, with some using that country as a route through the Mediterranean into Europe.
Some have said that the illegal immigrants cannot be blamed for the situation, rather, the leadership of the various countries for their superintending poor economic conditions.
But Mustapha Hamid who spoke at an Open Forum on migration at the University of Ghana, said, “let us tell our young people, that… even if the devil is president of Ghana, and they have the willpower, the determination to succeed in their country, then they will succeed.”
He noted that the Ghanaian youth need to change their mindset and develop ingenious ways to succeed rather than accumulating money to travel illegally to Europe.
He said they should invest their monies into profitable ventures and ideas that will help them succeed in the country.
“If you have been able to….like somebody said, mobilize $1,500 of your money, that means you are ingenious enough to succeed in this country,” he said noting that the Ghanaian youth must change his perception and develop a spirit that will enable him thrive in the country even under the worse economic circumstance.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE FOUND MUSTAPHA DISTASTEFUL. THE FIRST ONE WAS WHEN KUFFUOR WAS PRESIDENT. YOU SAID ON A TV DISCUSSION ABOUT PROF. MILLS THAT HE WAS A FAILURE AND HE COULD NEVER BECOME A PRESIDENT IN GHANA. YOU ARGUED THAT HE FAILED IN HIS BID TO BECOME VICE CHANCELLOR AT LEGON, AND TWO TIMES TO KUFFUOR FOR PRESIDENCY. YOU CLAIM THAT MILLS WAS BORN TO FAIL. I DIDNT LIKE IT BECAUSE YOU MADE YOURSELF TO BE LIKE GOD WHO ALONE CAN DETERMINE THE FATE OF A PERSON. THE SECOND DISTASTEFUL STATEMENT IS WHAT IS ATTRIBUTED TO YOU, THAT PEOPLE CAN SUCCEED EVEN IF THE DEVIL BECOMES A PRESIDENT IN GHANA. IT IS VERY BAD STATEMENT BECAUSE: 1- IT IS INGRATITUDE TO GOD. MANY GHANAIANS PRAYED FOR CHANGE OF CONDITIONS IN GHANA AND NANA ADDO WON. WE HAD ALL HOPED THAT THE CHANGE WOULD HELP GHANA AND GHANAIANS TO SUCCEED. YOUR STATEMENT RENDER THE EFFORT TO SEEK CHANGE MEANINGLESS. 2- THE STATEMENT, IF TRUE, IS AN INSULT TO INTELLIGENCE OF GHANAIANS. IT MAKES IT AS IF IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO SHOULD BECOME PRESIDENT IN GHANA AND EFFORT TO SEEK GOOD PRESIDENT IS FRUITLESS. 3- IT IS INSULT TO THE PRESIDENCY AND NANA ADDO AS IF THE PRESIDENCY AND NANA ADDO DOES NOT MATTER. I THINK IT IS GOOD FOR YOU TO RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED LEARNING YOUR STUFF TO GOVERN. YOUR HAVE SHOWN CLEARLY THAT YOU ARE GOOD MATERIAL FOR ELECTION CAMPAIGN AND NOT FOR GOVERNANCE. THIS IS NOT UNUSUAL BECAUSE DIFFERENT PEOPLE ARE MADE TO PLAY DIFFERENT ROLES IN LIFE. THE EARLIER YOU REALISE THIS AND GO BACK TO UCC TO TEACH THE BETTER YOUR CAN DEVELOP THAT CAREER.
He's swimming in money now and he's taking sheet. Some of us can not lie like the he lied in opposition in that press conference he said prez Mahama attempted to bribe Bugri Nabu. You wait,2020 is near, we are waiting for them again. Lier
The 1500 dollars you are talking about you take about three times every months as a minister who just talks, but you want the youth to persevere and mobilize money and stay in Ghana. Is not you, at least we have voted for you to become a minister so you can say anything to us.
Did he really said this? Is he insinuating that Nana addo is the devil? What is the need to use this metaphor? Go straight the point to give your advice without invoking the name of the devil. Is it arrogance that make them speak this way or they are possessed by the devil. Just Las year, you campaigning to give jobs to the youth because you thought president mahama and his government were wicked. Today, the youth should persevere, eno big so? Do you think if Nana addo and barium is had told Ghanaian youth to persevere during his campaign, the youth would have voted for him? Perseverance is not an evil word, but that is not what you promised the youth.
If that is the case then why the noisy elections?
