The Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr has expressed excitement over the appointment of Martin Amidu as the country’s first Special Prosecutor.
Anti-corruption crusader Martin Amidu has been appointed as the country’s first Special Prosecutor pending parliamentary approval; a decision that has been welcomed by many.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor marks the fulfilment of a major campaign promise of Nana Akufo-Addo in the run-up to the 2016 elections aimed at fighting corruption.
President Akufo-Addo has already signed into law the bill setting up the Special Prosecutor office after it was approved by Parliament in November 2017.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Joy FM’s newsfile programme, Kweku Baako described the appointment saying: “it was a political masterstroke”
“He’s just fit for purpose…this is not an easy office…he’s not a perfect person; his recent record is critical; the independence of character…I think the president took a decision driven by a strategic thinking…” he added.
Vetting
Mr Amidu will appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament to be vetted in the coming days following his appointment.
As a word of advice, Kweku Baako has urged him to ‘prepare himself’ because he is going to face a tense 'grilling'.
“I suspect there might be real grilling at the vetting…he must prepare himself for some ordeal but I believe he’s got the stamina and capacity to endure the storm” he said.

There is nothing wrong with the maases being happy about this appointment. Amidu has demonstrated that he has this nation at heart and we all saw it.
Kweku Baako! There is nothing to jubilate about this appointment. Martin Hamidu has allowed himself to be used in a political game. The man can't do anything. It's like during the slave trade era when white people appointed one slave to spy on other slaves. When slavery ended, those appointed slaves did not have it easy at all. How is he going to balance the prosecution of NDC members against any NPP member considering the very heavy political connotations here? And what happens thereafter?? has he thought of his future yet? Is he forever not going to have to make do with his insufficient salary alone? Who prosecute him should he also fault the law? Not easy to play God ooo if you are human! Allow yourself to also make mistakes bcos that is what being human is.
