Martin Amidu has set the record straight on his role as the Special Prosecutor (SP) and the capacity of the Attorney General in relation to his SP's office.

According to him, though he cannot assure Ghanaians he will be able to eradicate corruption entirely from the nation but he will try to bring it under maximum subjugation.

Mr. Amidu has appeared before the Appointments Committee in Parliament to be vetted for approval or otherwise of his position as Special Prosecutor.

Responding to questions before the Committee on Tuesday, February 13, 2018; Mr. Amidu stated categorically that the Attorney General will not dictate to him and his outfit "who to prosecute and who not to prosecute" so far executing his duties to combat corruption is concerned.

He clarified the distinction between the two offices saying "the Attorney General will be prosecuting under her authority. That doesn't mean that she will instruct us who to prosecute and who not to prosecute".

He also noted that though he will be working with a Board, "the Board will be matters of policy but they'll not decide for us our investigations and prosecutions. That will be to interfere into my independence".

Martin Amidu issued a sign of caution to his staff assigned to work with him at the Special Prosecutor's office to uphold core principle of integrity and also emulate his nationalistic spirit towards corruption in the country.

"I didn't accept the nomination on the grounds that I will succeed. I accepted to try and that's what I am going to do because I'm just one person. My deputy's integrity will be important. The integrity and honesty of my staff will be important".

"I'm going to try to work with them and because of my example of leadership hoping that they will all let us work as a team in the honest spirit of achieving something", he said.
