There has been a call for the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen to resign over his claims that the Presidency gifted the NPP Gh¢50 billion (thought to be GH¢5,000,000) for its 2017 National Delegates Conference in Cape Coast.

According to the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Mr Kweku Baako Jnr, he has picked information that Nana Obiri Boahen is alleged to have “fabricated” the allegation as part of efforts to solicit for information on how much the Presidency donated towards the conference.

In a radio discussion programme on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday morning, Mr Baako said the allegation was shameful and that Nana Obiri Boahen should resign as Deputy General Secretary if he indeed “fabricated” it.

Other panelists on the radio programme, Messrs Yaw Boateng Gyan and Bernard Allotey Jacobs who are leading members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), contributing to the discussions suggested that Nana Obiri Boahen was being frustrated by his colleagues in the national executive who have probably side-lined him in the sharing of booty.

Meanwhile the NPP has tasked its Steering Committee to investigate the allegation stating that it was “palpable falsehood” and “indeed, Nana Obiri Boahen himself has subsequently admitted to the falsity of his baseless allegation.”

In a statement signed and issued by General Secretary, Mr John Boadu on Wednesday, the party said “Nonetheless, the party takes serious view of his unfortunate comments and has accordingly tasked the Steering Committee to immediately look into the matter and make appropriate recommendations.”

Nana Obiri Boahen in the leaked telephone conversation complained about some happenings in the NPP and lamented that he has been side-lined in the sharing of booty.

In the audio, Obiri Boahen is heard alleging that despite being faithful to the NPP even when they were in opposition, he is not benefiting like others.

He among other things alleged that the presidency gave out GH¢50 billion (thought to be GH¢500,000) in support of the party’s delegates conference in Cape Coast.

He alleged he was given only Gh¢3,000 as a member of a committee and an additional GH¢2,000 for fuel for the Cape Coast conference despite the fact that the Flagstaff House gave the party an amount of GH¢50 billion.
