Host of Peace FM's Flagship programme "Kokrokoo", Kwami Sefa Kayi has condemned NPP Firebrand Hajia Fati for assaulting a journalist.
Hajia Fati is reported to have physically assaulted Adom FM reporter, Ohemaa Sekyiwaa at the NPP Headquarters.
The assault occurred after Hajia Fati forcefully prevented Sammy Crabbe, a suspended official of the party from picking up forms to contest the NPP’s chairmanship position.
Ohemaa Sekyiwaa narrating the incident in an interview on Kokrokoo on Tuesday stated that she "only went there to do my job and didn't flout any law as I was cooperative. The atmosphere was not too friendly so I wanted to capture the environment. As soon as I took out my camera, Hajia Fati smashed my phone and heavily punched me. We are currently looking at the law to possibly take a legal action against her".
In a radio interview, Hajia also explained her actions saying she thought the reporter was Sammy Crabbe’s understrapper who has been contracted by her boss to take pictures of her for ulterior motives, adding that she looked more like an “onion seller” than a reporter.
“The woman standing there did not look like a reporter. I thought it was one of Sammy Crabbe’s women who wanted to take pictures of me. The lady did not look like a reporter. She resembled an onion seller. She did not look like a reporter at all,” she said.
Addressing the issue, Mr. Sefa Kayi cautioned the NPP to bring Hajia Fati to order.
He wondered why the party seems to be afraid to issue punitive measures against her to ensure she stops putting up such violent demeanor.
Mr. Sefa Kayi sent a strong signal to the NPP that the journalism fraternity may boycott the party if it doesn't sanction Hajia over this issue and other matters involving her.
“This whole thing is not about Sammy Crabbe. It’s a fact that if Sammy Crabbe hadn’t gone there, this might not have happened but it is not about Sammy Crabbe. It is about the behaviour of a woman in your party at your headquarters who has constantly displayed a particular attitude you are all privy to. Address Hajia Fati! That is where the issue is...This nonsense must stop!” he stressed.

I GUESS WE HAVE GIVEN A NEW MEANING TO WHAT HAJIA SAID. LISTENING TO HER SHE SAID THE LADIES LOOKS LIKE ME AND OTHER MUMMIES WHO DRESS LIKE ME . LIKE THE ONION SELLERS SO I DIDNT THINK ITS ACTUALLY AN INSULT ALTHOUGH IN OTHER SENSES IT COULD BE AN INSULT THAT IS HOW I C IT. SHE WAS WRONG IN REACTING THAT WAY. BUT WHAT SHOULD BE THE APPROPRIATE REACTION WHEN THERE IS SEVERAL FLAHSES OF LIGHT IN YOUR FACE WHEN YOU DO NOT KNOW Y YOU ARE BEING SNAPPED. I THINK THE JOURNALIST SHD HAVE GONE CLOSER TO ASK HER QUESTIONS AND SHE GIVES HER VERSION AND AT LEAST THAT MIGHT ERASE SUSPICIONS.
we all need wisdom in the discharge of our duties. You don't expect an angry person to take it kindly when you want to interfere in his/her anger, abi? As much as i don't condone the assault, our journalists should also exhibit common sense in the discharge of their duties under such circumstances. Journalist should stop using their wide coverage to sway Ghanaian's from the real issues of this matter.
If laws do not f=work in Ghana, they do in developed countries. This singular act could cause a fine against the journalist and her company. In Amerika, if you are arguing with someone and you as a gesture point to the person, you can be mistaken for threatening the person. Africans make gestures when they speak, but this is misunderstood in Amerika. Where do we draw the line? Can Journalist take a person's picture wherever, whenever, however they want without prior consent of the person?
Those of you who say you cannot just tahe photographs should know that NPP office is not a private area. It is a public place
If she said the lady looks like onion seller, should an onion seller be bitten at our own house?
With all due respect, the journalist needed to identify herself before taking pictures. If it was me, I would have broken the phone then slapped her. Ghanaians are hypocrites.
I guess oflate everyone should go and sit at the party office just for being members. Thanks KSK for the last advice you gave JB on your interview. I doff my cap for you Kwabena.
I see/read all the comments here as out of content bcos the issue is no UNIDENTIFIED PERSON should just get to wherever the atmosphere is not friendly and start taking photos, in Australia if you take photo of someone without the person's concern YOU CAN BE PROSECUTED so all who think they are reporters/journalist MUST WEAR at least a VEST with their media station written BOLDLY on it to show professionalism and identification. The alleged "jeene"/onion seller must learn this thank you
Oh Kwame, Now are media men more Ghanaian than party members who were attacked by this same woman???
Name: Gabby Otchere darko Now some history : UGCC broke down in 1952... Busia then formed the Ghana congress party (GCP) and launched it at bekwai. In 1954 some ppl (including then otumfuo Agyemang Prempeh with his money worth seventy million pounds ) formed the NLM. When elections was held NLM had some seats and tho busia lost his seat,NLM offered him a seat. We had the Ga shefi mekpe (meaning the Ga youth),the togoland congress,Ghana muslims counsel--why Suame in Kumasi is so important in our history, the northern people's party.NLM was the Ashanti branch... The constellation of the above groups formed the UP. There was no UGCC and nothing like that at the time.UGCC is in no way connected to UP In the scheme of things,Ashanti and northern regions were not part of the colony...so all the people who claim they were fighting for independence were the coastal regions and greater parts of the eastern region who were under the then colony. Ashanti's joined the battle for independence after the Second World War when otumfuo went to Accra... It was then that he said they would join the euphoria to be part of the struggle for independence. So strictly speaking,Ashanti and northern regions were not part of the colony. 1947-formation of ugcc 1949-formation of cpp 1951-breakdown of ugcc /defunct 1952--formation of Ghana congress party by dr Busia and inaugurated at Bekwai in Ashanti 1954--formation of NLM (at manhyia but Baffuor Akoto spokesperson) 1957--avoidance of discrimination act by Kwame Nkrumah so formation of UP due to dissolution of all ethnic and religious based parties
