Managing Director of the State Transport Company, (STC) and Former Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has disclosed why he didn't pick nomination forms to contest for the Vice Chairmanship position in the party.
In a post on his facebook page he said: “When nominations opened last week, l declined to pick forms. What is emerging is that this particular election may present the NPP with the most undiversified national leadership, as almost all the elected positions may be filled from the Akan subgroup. Every effort must be made to ensure that some of these positions have elected members from outside the Akan subgroup”
Below is the full statement from Nana Akomea
In the last couple of months leading up to the NPP national executive elections, l have been accosted by various groups in the NPP to urge me and pledge support for me to contest for one or the other national executive positions. Delegations have come from Ashanti, Eastern and Western regions had come to my office to urge me on. Several WhatsApp groups have been formed by like-minded individuals to promote my contest.
Several individuals and critical party leaders have also spoken to me about offering myself for a national position.
Research conducted by the Danquah Institute found l was the clear, overwhelming favourite for one of the key executive positions.
When nominations opened last week, l declined to pick forms. What is emerging is that this particular election may present the NPP with the most undiversified national leadership, as almost all the elected positions may be filled from the Akan subgroup.
Every effort must be made to ensure that some of these positions have elected members from outside the Akan subgroup.
It is to be part of this effort that l have declined to contest for the Vice Chairmanship position. It is my great hope that the three Vice Chairmanship positions will afford the election of other members from outside the Akan subgroup.
I remain thankful to all the groups and individuals who have looked forward to my contest and who will be disappointed now. I assure them it is for the greater good of the party.
The NPP remains the best political party to take this country to the “promised land”.
God bless us all

Nana you are a person that always surprises me. Wish we have more of your type in politics.
We are building a country and a small country as such like Ghana does not need divisions especially on tribal and religious grounds. We must be able to look at each other in the face and sincerely tell ourselves what is wrong what is right. We all know that we have built undercurrent tension that has made it difficult to say the truth to some group of people here in Ghana because the whole group will bring hell down if one of them is caught with the law.My point is the Ghana project should be Ghana project "SIMPLICITA". If the other sub-group want to work passionately hard for the party, I can bet you there is equal chance for everybody in NPP. Hiding behind tribe is a sign of personal weakness and inferiority complex. We had the Quashigah's, Okudzetos and now the Amewus, just to mention a few from Volta who I can say genuinely won and are winning the hearts of NPP guysand Ghanaians. We had Wrekoh Brobey and Arthur Kenedy, Nyaho and others who exposed their greed and have killed their political career for good. some are Akans too. Don't join a political party out of sympathy because your loyalty will not stand the test of time. Okudzeto Ablakwa and co couldn't wait in the NPP queue then so decided to opt out to NDC, we can't begrudge him. More young guys have come in and are very much recognized. I respected our friends from Volta for the way they rejected corrupt NDC despite their supposed loyalty to that party and I can bet you Ashanti's will do worse to NPP if they tow the same line. If these two groups break off their shackles then Ghana will will start seeing the benefit of true democracy. Our next problem will be below standard journalism who pursue their personal interest on radio and newspapers. I wouldn't even break a sweat on newspapers because they are dead already. In conclusion, Nana Akomeah should tell those who genuinely love the party and want to work for the party put up their hands and convince the electorate.
NANA WHY AND WHERE FROM THIS KIND OF THINKING? IS SOMEBODY PREVENTING THE NON-AKAN SUBGROUP FROM CONTESTING? IF I MAY BE RIGHT THEN I WILL SAY, TO HOLD A POSITION AT NPP EXECUTIVE LEVEL IS PURELY A CONTEST OF IDEAS AND NOT TRIBAL ISSUES. TO ME, IF THE SO-CALLED SUB-AKAN GROUP WILL WORK HARD FOR NPP TO MAINTAIN POWER FOR AS LONG AS WE ALL ARE EXPECTING WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT? NANA YOU CAMPAIGN FOR AFOKO AS CHAIRMAN OF NPP AS AGAINST THE AKAN SUBGROUP AND YOU HELPED TO REMOVE OR SUSPEND AFOKO , AND THIS SO-CALLED SUB-AKAN GROUPS LED THE PART TO VICTORY OF WHICH YOU ARE NOW A CHIEF EXECUTIVE. NANA GIVE US A BREAK. THE FACT YOU COULD NOT PICK A FORM DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU CAN THROW ANYTHING OUT.
You are WRONG BIG TIME !!!!!!; for a start Paul Afoko is a northner and as evil they come ; Paul Afoko had sinister ideas to wreck Nana Addos attempt to win the last election besidesd many northners who aligned themselves to the NDC have proved the steelers as their leader Jon Mahama ;NO PARTY SURVIVES WITH THE TAG NAME OF BEEN STILLERS : INCOMPETENT AND CORRUPT ; Jon Mahama a northner through chance became the President of Ghana without anybody voting for him ; that should tell you something besides we are all witness to how this wicked northner Jon Mahama virtually robbed Ghanaians with his incompetence and blatant steeling besides you are WRONG it is not about proving yourself or people being given special treatment by the party besides it is in the interest of the NPP to encourage people from diversified tribes to apply because this is politics and people feel accepted and feel included when they see their tribes men/women play important roles in a party ; this is not the case with NPP and that is the point Nana Akomea is making ; the Akans may be the majority but they only have one vote and not all Akans vote for the NPP besides one these same Akans might need the assistance of other trbes to win an election .
When are we going let people compete for position on their individual merits without making them feel inferior. I will be worried if I were from any of these tribes. Is Nana Akomea saying if he had contested he would won against the other contestants because he is an Akan? Bawumia will give any candidate a good run for his money after Nana Ado, what can you say about that too? For me it about proving yourself and we must stop making people feel that they must be giving special help to get to some positions. Afoko was bad and that had nothing to do with where he came from.
Nana Akomea's reason not to pick nomination form is very fantastic; we need such objective leaders in the party. He has my support to contest the Chairmanship position in the next 4 years ahead. God bless Nana Akomea.
Eii Nana Akomea, watch your words because NDC will use it during campaign time.
Nana Akomea is a potential leader in the NPP party ; a good and very good tribal mixer like Nana Addo unlike certain people in the NPP party who are just tribalist ; to me the point Alkomea is making is straegicaly CORRECT !!!!! and must be closely examined by the party ; for me ;although it is up to any individual to go pick a form and market their potential ambition for any position in the NPP ; it is very important for the party to look at the tribal balance in the party because history tells us about a party called NDC which was moulded out of a tribalistic group of people called ewes led by JJ Rawlings; the party created this perception that the party was for a particular group of people from ewe land ;this created a lot of hatred because the founder of the party JJ Rawlings and Awoonor -Williams set up this idea of people from the Volta region being the only people fit for purpose in all position in the NDC and Ghana ; today the NDC party is also peceived to be an EWE party and the NPP an Akan party - VERY DANGEROUS !!!!!;in the past a few northners and Akans were assigned positions here and there but the key positions went to ewes ; the same is happening in the NPP today with other tribes being overlooked in terms of encouraging people from other tribes to participate in this election ; although it is a democratic process it is rather relevant to push the agenda of minority tribes to represent an inclusive election because that would enhance the potential of everybody in the party ;it is said that using one ingredient for a soup does not taste well but using different ingredients in a soup taste well !!!!!; this strategy is done all over the world in most corporate bodies and parties ;even the Japanese the worst tribalist on earth have started to allow people from other counteries to work for them ; it is just like attempting to encourage women to apply for positions in order to cure the tribal inbalance; Nana Addo has ateempted to do this in his cabinet selection and the NPP party should adopt this strategy ; NANA AKOMEA IS CORRECTB
I don't understand this. This is an election,Right? Nobody has been stopped from contesting any position at any level.if a Northerner can contest a position at any level and win I don't think anyone will stop him from doing so. Come again Nana,This one paa di3 I don't see what you're complaining about.
Then, they must make all the voltarians and northerners go unopposed. That would solve the problem.
