Director of Elections of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Amofo has thrown salvoes at the nomination of the Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Madam Jean Adukwei Mensa as the new Chairperson for the Electoral Commission (EC).
According to him, Madam Jean Mensa is more than likely to act in favour of the ruling NPP.
He said the NDC as a party does not have any issue with her competency or qualification, but rather, her biased nature towards the NPP.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo said the President's nominee must be someone who is unbiased and not affiliated to any party, unlike this nomination.
Chronicling some events that happened some 3 years ago, he said the NDC were part of the IEA’s political party platform but they boycotted due to Jean Mensah's inclination towards the NPP and her posture on certain issues.
“It undermines the credibility of the whole Electoral Commission,” Samuel Ofosu Ampofo told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, Tuesday morning.
He said the President should not have settled on someone who has a big issue with their biggest political opponent, as there are many Ghanaians qualified for the job.
“Today, when you google (Jean Mensah), you will see the running battle the NDC has had with the woman . . . you know the NDC pulled out of the IEA presidential debate because of the woman’s posturing and certain things she said. It got to a time she even insulted Koku Anyidoho and the NDC,” he alleged.
Asked about the specifics of the running battle they had with the IEA Boss, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo declined to go into details but gave the assurance that at the appropriate time the party would come out to state those facts.
He raised an instance where prior to the IEA debate in 2016, Madam Jean Mensa dealt with Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, a former Foreign Affairs Minister and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West constituency in the Central Regon, instead of contacting party officials.
“She sidelined NDC, went and dealt with individuals who cannot take decisions for the party . . . she communicated with Hon. Hanna Tetteh . . . you deal with the party not an individual in the party . . . She doesn’t represent NDC when it comes to taking a decision at the highest level of the party whether we are going to attend a presidential debate or not. It is the General Secretary of the party and the National Chairman who represents the NDC when it comes to NDC matters,” he told Peace FM.
He said these among other things made the NDC withdraw from the IEA debate.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named the boss of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Jean Adukwei Mensah, as the new Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
Her appointment follows the removal from office last month of the former Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei, and the two deputies, Mr. Amadu Sulley and Mrs. Georgina Opoku Amankwah, by President Akufo-Addo, after the Committee established by the Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo, to investigate petitions brought against them, recommended their removal.
A statement signed by the Chief of Staff Hon. Frema Opare, also named Mr. Samuel Tettey together with Dr. Eric Asare Bossman, as Deputy Chairpersons and Ms. Adwoa Asuama Abrefa, as a Member of the Commission
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday criticized the nomination of the Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Jean Adukwei Mensah, as the new Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, describing her as a "known pro-NPP and an avowed anti-NDC person".
General Secretary of the opposition party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, affectionately called ‘General Mosquito’, claims the Nana Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, has appointed its own referee to conduct and rig the 2020 presidential and parliamentary polls in their favour.

What is the proof that Ghana is drilling oil? Is it the poverty? Or the krazy taxes? Krazy bald heads
What is Samuel Ofosu Ampofo's argument? Ghana should endorse deep-seated corruption elements? He would deny Mrs Jane Mensa her inalienable freedom to throw out what justice by her cannot accommodate? Ghana must purge herself of all wrongs, whatever and whoever the cause or source.
Palm wine talk
If former president Mahama and his party ndc is counting on former EC boss, Charlotte Osei and her ndc staff EC for their victory then they must revise their note you depended on her and NPP did not allow her to steal for you yet you still want her to be there so that this time she can steal for you
Some of our leaders like this mam, Madam Ama Beyewa-Doe , Bernard Mona of PNC, am sorry Ex-President Mahama, Gen Mosquito and maybe my dear friend Koku anyidoho are talking like ***barred word*** infact they are ***barred word***, not good examples of good leaders. AmaBeyawa Doe was a member of a Council of State that wrongly advise our brother ex-President Mahama to go into the gutters when the case of the three NDC boys who offended the Supreme Court and were jailed for contempt but free on the advice of an ***barred word*** council of state. Mamma Doe, please note that even if It is true that NPP did not like my dear lady Charlotte, NPP could not get her removed if no tangible grounds to do so. NDC never like Chief Justice Georgina Wood and attempted to remove her but could not do so because the Constitution of Ghana was/is supreme, it protected her. You need to have a petition and the CJ is required to establish a prima facie ( a strong evidence) which must be investigated and if found culpable the responder must be sacked. Period. So if there is an impeachable offense petitioned against his Excellency President Nana Addo and he is found culpable he will be removed whether we saw it and like it or not because the Constitution is supreme. So we need not to entertain any fear at all. If Jean Mensa takeover and she misbehaved or cause an impeachable offense in her first month in office, any true Ghanaian, true Christian or true Moslem and true defender of the Constitution is required to cause the removal of Jean Mensa without waiting for NDC to come to power. Please stop making Ghanaians look ***barred word*** or as laughing stock and know that we are in a community of states where the rule of the law is supreme. The press must also stop exposing our idiotic leaders. We now understand why Ghana is behind Singapore. A lot of Kwase Nyantakyi in Leadership position. always thinking of their stomach talk like ***barred word***. infact they are ***barred word***, not good examples of good leaders. By far a sad apology of a so called christian and anelder. This aakwandobea , i never dreamt villager is an example of why Christianity is on the decline in Ghana. He massages the truth to the point of no recognition. l1-ar par excellence. If indeed Ofosu ampofu's assertion of 1--nsult against Hannah rambo tetteh, the squeezer of of KAR( Konadu Agyemang Rawlings' hands) is to be taken seriously, what bearing has it got on the ability and competence of the new commissioner. Oh Ghana! what a J00ke of democracy we practice. With such sub standard politicians leading the NDC, this ill conceived inherently corrupt party will falter.
This man is indeed shallow!!! Always on radio inflicting his one-dimensional thinking on discerning listeners, is that all he could say?
AFTER BEEN DCE, NATIONAL OGANIZER, MP, DEPUTY MINISTER, MINISTER BOARD CHAIRMAN ETC AND NOW DIRECTOR OF ELECTIONS - NDC, THIS IS WHAT YOU WERE ABLE TO SAY AFTER YOU LONG TALK ON RADIO. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM IN DEED YOU R A TYPICAL EXAMPLE OF AN EDUCATED ILLITERATE. IN FACT THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN TO SCHOOL ARE OF MUCH IMPORTANCE THAN YOU
Sooner than later, the good people of Ghana will know the follies of the NDC. Even in opposition, they are ***barred word*** and incompetent.
PURE CHILDISH TALK. WHO IS KOKU AND CAN'T NDC BE INSULTED? NOW YOU FEAR TO TASTE YOUR OWN CONCOCTION. YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET.
