On a day filled with grief, the late Kwesi Amissah-Arthur’s widow, Matilda Amissah-Arthur’s tribute was tinged with anger on a day the nation had gathered to pay final respects to the former Vice President.
In Matilda Amissah-Arthur’s tribute, she said she had been amazed by the number of people who had shown her love following the passing of her husband, but not for the right reasons.
“I asked myself, is this Ghana? Are all these people in Ghana because the maligning, the lies, the treachery, the wickedness, the deliberately changing things so that you could look better than others.”
Her tribute appeared to share the sentiments of those who felt Kwesi Amissah-Arthur was marginalized by his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) despite his decades worth of service to the party.
“Today I asked the same question, did people really know my husband. Did people take time to know him? The false accusations, the lies, the maligning. Did they know him?”
But in words of comfort, she concluded saying her family cherished the late Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.
“We knew you, and we know you are a rare gem, and we treasure you, and we are very proud of you,” she said.
“A thousand tears won’t bring you back. I know because I have cried. But I know that you made your mark in this country and beyond and you touched many lives and those who cared to know you and those who gave you time to prove yourself know what a rare gem you are.”
Kwesi Amissah-Arthur died on June 29, 2018, after he collapsed at the Airforce Gym in Accra during a workout session.
He is expected to be buried at the military cemetery in Accra.

As for CHALK her attitude is simply terrible. I pity domestic staff who had to deal with her. She couldn't even comport herself at a sober ceremony. Agitator General Matilda!
I feel more sad about the tribute of Matilda.. what is she talking about... Even Presidents have been insulted and all manner of things said about them.. Does she know what Akuffo Addo went through before he became a president.. Alot of people are so mad with the kind of tribute she gave.. She should give us a break....
What else do we expect from a venomous tongue like Matilda's. She looked into the faces of people and told them "We would not give you chalk today, we will not give you chalk tomorrow!" A language akin to ill-bread, discourteous arrogant people. Listen to yourself! Some of us are certainly older than you and just listen to yourself talking down and insulting the conscience of people. You are certainly a good riddance!!!
well done matilda, give it to them/ hypocrites, they know themselves
Eii this leaders and rich men ,with all your positions you only had two children ? waaaa look !!! ..you should have produce more to become more relevant in our society. RIP May God almighty forgive you and show mercy on you.
What else do you expect Peacefm to publish other than news from Citifm news. Birds with the same feathers. Where is the report from your over-pampered reporters at the funeral grounds? We all know Ama Sarpong and Akosua Sarpong as well as the too known ladies at PeaceFM, Okay FM and particularly Neat FM finds it reluctant to review newspapers from NDC stable especially Daily Post and Herald. They will always try to read the headlines the way they want other than what has been written. Your politics are dirty and it's about time idioots at the Despite Group Media wised up!
God have mercy on us
Ndc are happy because they blame your husband for their loss. You yourself with your atrrogant chalk comment did not help. In politics, it is dirty so do not complain. I remember your husband maligning Bawumia and insulting Nana Addo for being too short. Just ***barred word*** and let us reflect.
Madam Amisah Arthur please accept my condolences, however, no party in the history of Ghana can be ACIDIC as the party called NDC with which your good self and late husband aligned yourselves and was so much in love with...your own founder found your party babies with SHARP TEETHES; a party who pride itself so well with a PROPAGANDA portfolio. The current president was branded a w*ee smoker, a d*ruggist, wominizer, wife killer just to mention a few. I would humbly suggest we all get together to give PK a befitting burial and move on; perhaps a word of advise to all political parties to be decorous moving forward.
It's not abt the NDC as u want people to believe. She was referring to Bawumia and the NPP who kept denigrating him and the NDC
