President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been given two options; either to step down or apologize to Ghanaians for his involvement in the new Ameri Deal.
According to the General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, the President cannot say he was forced to give an executive order to the deal and that once he gave his approval, he was aware of the content; adding Mr Agyarko should not be the only person to bear the brunt.
Mr Boakye Agyarko was on Monday, 6th August, 2018 relieved of his position as the Energy Minister.
Even though reason for his dismissal was not mentioned in the statement from the presidency; there were claims that it was due to the new AMERI deal.
Subsequently, Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, confirmed that Mr. Agyarko’s dismissal was due to his handling of the AMERI amendment deal.
The dismissal according to him has “to do with the issue of the controversial AMERI deal. The President believes that in the interest of the Ghanaian people, in the interest of the country and in the interest of his administration, the Minister for Energy, Hon. Boakye Agyarko should be relieved of his position”
However, Atik Mohammed, contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Thursday, said using Ameri as the basis for the Energy Minister’s dismissal is "weak" and ‘most unfortunate’.
“If the basis for (Agyarko's) dismissal is the Ameri deal then it is weak. In that case, then the President himself should have also stepped down. Because when the documents were brought to him he signed with an executive order. He is responsible for the content and so you cannot sacrifice only one man for the content you accepted and signed… sacking only the energy minister is most unfortunate.. I find his decision most unfortunate and harsh. If the Ameri deal led to Agyarko’s dismissal, then Mr President, the least you can do if you will not resign, is to apologize to Ghanaians,” he stated.

It was JDM who accepted such a horrible agreement but Atik failed to ask him to resign. The NPP is trying to save Ghana from delving into more debt by finding a lasting solution to this horrible agreement and instead of such empty barrels like Atik who is a ***barred word*** to appreciate he is supporting his ***barred word*** brother Mahama who is the most cleverest scoundrel Ghana has ever had. ***barred word***
Atik or whatever your name is. You aren't serious. He should resign for who to takeover. Yourself or who? You people talk by heart. Just for your voice to be heard. Lets be serious for once in this country. Anybody can just get up and say anything.
You are talking sense my brother, in some countries this ***barred word*** president of your country Ghana must be set a side by abortive coup. the person is always taking drug how can he read papers. by grace his water mouth licking has little bit stop.
NANA ADDO IS A GREAT LEADER BY ALL STANDARDS HE IS HUMAN AND NOT GOD. WE PREFER HIM TO THE INCOMPETENT AND CORRUPT ONES.
WAAAA LOOK IS TALKING
HOW CAN THE PRESIDENT CLAIM NOT TO HAVE READ THE CONTENT.... THIS IS VERY CHILDISH OF THE PRESIDENT... WAS HE TAKING IN THE DRUGS WHEN THE PAPER CAME BEFORE HIM??.. JUNKY ALL THE WAY WE CLAIM TO BE THE FIRST GENTLEMAN OF THE REPUBLIC... WE BETTER START OPPOSING THEIR TRICKS AND WE WILL BE GOOD.
My heart is bleeding with the tears flowing when I read Joe's comment!!! Ghana, Gye Nyame!!!
Anythime I hear Atik and Bernard Mornah talk, I reflect on Dr Edward Mahama, Hassan Ayariga and the state of PNC. Serious political parties are organizing their structures but same cannot be said about PNC. Yet these so called chairman and general secretary are busy on radio/TV calling on people to resign, while their candidate is "at large", "ambassadoring" himself. I can confidently say that in spite of their loud noise, if we hand them power today (for free), they CANNOT manage it as a party. While Mornah is in running around the NDC collecting cash and cars, Atik is struggling to catch the eyes of others in other places. NPP has finished with party organization, NDC is in the process. What is PNC doing? Funny bunch of PNC executives. Hope they will contest the 2020 too.
@Joe, right there. That is why our country is in a state and there is rampant corruption.
Atik should first of all returned the moneys and other assets he got from NPP before running his mouth. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.
