The Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has appreciated former President John Mahama's decision to contest for the flagbearer slot of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a tweet, Mr Ablakwa said: “Defining Moment. Thank you John Mahama for the declaration. Vox Populi, Vox Dei – the voice of the people is, indeed, the voice of God. May the Lord guide your path and crown your efforts with success for it is He who chooses leaders.”
The former President declared his intention to contest in a letter presented on his behalf by former Ambassador to the United States, Daniel Ohene Agyekum at the party’s Adabraka headquarters on Thursday, 23 August 2018.
In a short video to explain why he wants to lead the party again, Mahama said “Our collective victory in 2020 will end the increasing hardships, expand the base of our economy, create more sustainable jobs, ensure shared prosperity for all, and pursue good governance including peace, unity and security”.
He added that his decision to contest for the NDC’s presidential race is as a result of the overwhelming support and encouragement given him by some party faithful and stalwarts.
“I have taken into consideration, the groundswell of support, the never-ending calls and encouragement from a large section of our party elders, members of our party, supporters and Ghanaians, from diverse backgrounds.”
“As a servant-leader, I have listened with deep respect to the elders of our party, to members of our party, and Ghanaians from all walks of life, and I am honoured to avail myself of truthful, transparent, selfless, unifying and dedicated service to the NDC and above all, to the good people of Ghana”, he added.

These are the people Bagbin said they caused the party to loose. Jm will never learn. He still surrounding himself with baby with sharp teeth
IF AN OPPONENT(NDC) BRINGS SOMEONE YOU(NPP) CAN EASILY BEAT WHY ARE YOU APPREHENSIVE AND JITTERY? NPP CLEARLY IS AFRAID OF THE NDC MAHAMA CANDIDATURE
Per your name, what exactly is your point or your problem? If he is a "toxic baggage", you should rather encourage him to stand and "disgrace" yourself. Keep your thoughts yourself since you are not "Ghanaians" but a Ghanaian!!!
So you NDC people are so blinded by your hope of coming back to power and making maximum use of the privileges therein that you cannot even allow common sense to prevail? People detested John Mahama so much that they voted him out massively. It was not even a narrow loss. Instead of reflecting soberly and looking at how best you can move forward, you are clamoring to bring back all that toxic baggage. What do you people take Ghanaians for? People who have short memories and no sense of judgment? Any forward thinking party would have been strategizing for 2024, given your almost impossible chance of winning 2020. Now you take Mahama into 2020, he does not win, then you now begin working towards getting another person for 2024. You will not have enough time, and will definitely lose again. The sad thing is that Mahama is also kowtowing to all this n0ne$ense.
