A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) George Anane Coleman has sued two party members for calling him a murderer in a social media WhatsApp group chat.
According to the plaintiff, the defendants, David Boakye Yiadom, an accountant with the Ghana Education Service in the Upper Denkyira Municipal Assembly and Isaac Kwasi Apatsea who is the Youth Empowerment Authority Coordinator of the Upper Denkyira Municipal Assembly in the Central Region, used the social media platform to defame him.
In a suit filed at the Dunkwa On Offin District Court, the plaintiff who is a teacher averred that the defendants wrongly accused him of murdering his girlfriend.
The writ claims that the defendants after defaming the plaintiff dared him to proceed to court as they were willing to face him squarely.
“By the publication of these words complained of, the plaintiff has been exposed to hatred, ridicule and contempt and this has caused grave injury to the reputation of the plaintiff and makes his wife, family members, colleague staffs and friends to shun him”, the suit stated.
The NDC activist is therefore seeking general damages of GH¢20,000 a perpetual injunction against the defendants or their agents or assigns from further publishing the defamatory words complained of.
He is also seeking a retraction of the words complained of and an apology from the defendants with the same prominence.
