Washington Post White House reporter Josh Dawsey tweeted a photo of the event invitation which highlighted the large costs. The money will go towards Trump Victory, a joint fundraising committee for the president’s 2020 presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC).
The price is higher than the typical campaign event, but is not unheard of. In 2016, then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton charged at least $100,000 per head for a fundraising dinner in Nebraska. Former President Obama in 2012 headlined fundraising events that cost upwards of $35,800 per person.
The event is being hosted by RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and National Finance Chairman Todd Ricketts. Trump has long attracted scrutiny for hosting campaign events at his own properties, including the Trump International Hotel – particularly as M Trump retains ownership of his company – though he has placed his assets into a trust managed by his adult sons while he is in office.
His re-election campaign in 2018 has spent nearly $1 million (£767,000) at Trump-owned properties, including $113,000 (£100,000) at his hotel in Washington alone, the Wall Street Journal reported.
