NDC flagbearer hopeful, John Mahama has explained how well he would run the NPP’s Free Senior High School (SHS) policy if he is elected President in the upcoming 2020 general election.
John Mahama, who was over the weekend in the Central Region to gain the mandate of delegates of the party as the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2020 general polls, told party faithful in the Cape Coast North Constituency that he will institute a national stakeholders’ conference to develop strategies to make the programme more effective.
“We shall come together and decide on the proper implementation of Free SHS,” he said.
According to Mahama, the NDC has “done it before”.
The former President also pointed out that under the tenure of fellow flagbearer contender Ekwow Spio–Garbrah as Minister of Education in the Rawlings administration, the government organised a national conference on education and invited teachers, the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Organise Labour and other associations to deliberate on the best way forward for Ghana’s education.
It was at that conference, Mr Mahama said, that “a decision was taken to introduce the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) as a means of financing education in Ghana”.
He, therefore, vowed that if he gets the mandate to become President again, he would organise a similar conference that will culminate in the production of strategies that will ensure that the Free SHS programme is better-run under his presidency than what the Akufo-Addo government is currently doing.
However, President Akufo-Addo has stated that the determination by some elements within the National Democratic Congress to “review the Free Senior High School policy if voted into office” only means the eventual collapse of the policy.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the Ghanaian people should be alarmed by the proposal of the NDC and its presidential aspirant, John Dramani Mahama, for a review of the Free SHS policy – a policy which has ensured that 270,000 more Ghanaian children, in 2017 and 2018, have gained access to Senior High School.
“I am alarmed by this concept of the review. This is because anytime our political opponents try anything of this sort, it leads the policy in question into a coma. We all remember the NHIS one-term premium payment review pledge. Not only did the review not materialize, but they also succeeded in degrading the policy,” the President lamented.
He continued, “I honestly suspect reviewing the Free SHS policy means collapsing it. But, I doubt the Ghanaian people will allow this brilliant policy to be collapsed by anyone.”

GET LOST ,CAN YOU REASON ON YOUR OWN ? NO MORE DUMSOR ,ECT WE WILL GRADUALLY MAKE IT WITH NANA THAN YOU SENDING US INTO A PIT ONCE AGAIN.
Lets watch it. This man is depressed and has started drinking. He talks from his ***barred word*** these daysq
Mahama is history. He hasn't said anything new, not even one, a single one, just one, Ghana hasn't heard before. Is he saying double-track system is a new thing? Which rock has he being hiding under in this country? He can ask, the double track system in Ghana's educational system is as old as Adam. Does he not know this? He's talking about infrastructure, more schools, the bloated construction cost of those SHS's he embarked upon. How much did he promise he was going to complete? 200 + another 23 from a world bank facility. At the end when all was said and done, he could not count more than 30 schools that had been completed out of the 200 he promised. The funds for the 200 he borrowed, ask him, where the rest of those funds are, to complete the about 170 left. He again mentions quality. Quality during his tenure was so bad, the marking scheme and pass rates had to be adjusted for students to make the mark. That is the legacy of Mahama and education in this country. The verdict came and it was a thunderous rejection of his administration, indeed, an earth-shattering one, the likes of which Ghana has never experienced before since independence. With such a record, it's funny, he's still talking about improving education and even thinking about winning and coming back to cancel policies and programs he was against. Something definitely is not right and he will figure it out much sooner than later.
This is totally ***barred word***. Mr Mahama was in power for 8 years they could not consive the idea of free SHS and they’ve gone. A new President has taken over and has consive the idea, and has given birth to its. And you Mr Mahama telling Ghanaians that you’re coming to run it’s better. Oh my God, indeed Ghanaians have a SHORT MEMORY. Let ask Mr Mahama what did they do on the National Health Insurance. Oh God help us to have a LONG MEMORY this time round.
Eeeeiii Kojo Mahama u di3333....hahahahaha... u no fi do am somebody come start u say u go fi run am better...joker
MAMAHA ABOABA: YOU ARE THE MOST FOOOOOOLISH MAN AND STUUUUPID MAN ON THE EARTH. MAHAMA IS A GOAAAT AND DOONNKEY. HE WILL INSULT YOU MAHAMA. BECAUSE YOU ARE USELESSSS MAN IN THE WORLD.
Mahama was in power for 8 years he couldn’t see to do anything better. Now that he’s not there and Nana Akufo Addo has opened his eyes with all these policies, he thinks he can do it “better” than the originator. You see the mentality of John Ford Mahama the ‘blackman’, he has no new ideas of his own. I wonder what he might be thinking next....? Disaster!
I'm praying that short memory short memory Ghanaians should bring this man back.
MAHAMA ,YOU HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER GHANAIANS.GET LOST.
