The Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, has challenged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to show Ghanaians the achievements of his 110 ministers that justify his decision to keep the number. The President, despite criticisms from Ghanaians and civil society groups, has maintained that he needed the huge number of appointees to deliver on the promises he made Ghanaians.
“We have a problem and what is the best way? It is better to have men and women capable of serving the nation’s interests and to work to grow the economy… If I succeed, you will soon find out that the brouhaha is nothing compared to the success.
“I don’t believe that any government in the Fourth Republic has inherited the challenges that my government has inherited,” the President told GTV in an interview
Some Ghanaians had nursed hopes that the President will cut down the number in a reshuffle, but that appears to be taking forever since the administration is almost 2 years in office without any sign of a major shakeup.
According to Dr. Akwetey, the ministers were yet to deliver on the expectation of Ghanaians.
“110 Ministers, I do not think they’ve given the President the results he needs. If they have results to show, they should make it public so we are all updated,” he said.
On the fight against graft, Dr. Akwetey said the various anti-graft agencies need more support from the Akufo-Addo government in order to make meaningful headway.
“I want to see the Criminal Justice system strengthened. The way we change IGPs and co should change. The Special Prosecutor, Auditor General among others will want to work more but they are not empowered to do so,” the IDEG boss said.

Hmmm Ghana? Now people are afraid to talk. such a fine and objective man talks and now u are bashing him? Jx asking whether its still prudent to have 110 minister? God save us. WE ARE BUILDING THE NATION OUR FORE BEARERS GAVE US INDEED. I am a citizen not a spectator.
IT SAD THAT GHANAIANS ARE AFRAID TO CONDEMN THIS PRIMITIVEEEEE AND BARBARICCCC ACT OF KNUST STUDENTS. HISTORY TESTIFIES THAT DEMONSTRATORS WITH GENUINE CONCERNS DO NOT RESULT TO BRUTEEEE AND VIOLENCE TO ADDRESS THEIR GRIEVANCES. YES, PEEOPLE IN DEMOCRATIC DISPENSATION EMBARK ON DEMONSTRATION BUT NOT EXPECTED TO BECOME SENSEELEESSSS AND VIOLENT LIKE KNUST STUDENT. SRC OF KNUST IS A FAILED LEADERSHIP AND MUST BE PUNISHED FOR SUCH UNNECESSARY DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY. I AM EXPECTING NUGS TO COME OUT MATURES AND TO CONDEMN SUCH UNCIVILISEEDD BEHAVIOUR AND NOT TO CONDONE IT. WHAT LEGACY ARE WE LEAVING TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION. THE BEHAVIOUR OF KNUST STUDENT IS SO BAD THAT IT DOES NOT BEFIT SECONDARY OR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT. I EXPECT CIVIL SOCIETY, RELIGIOUS BODIES, AND PROFESSIONAL BODIES TO CONDEMN THIS UNRULYYYY BEHAVIOUR OF KNUST STUDENT IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS IMMEDIATELY. MANY OF KNUST STUDENT HAD JOIN THE DEMONSTRATION BUT HAD NOT DESIRED TO BE DESTRUCTIVE AND SENSELESSS. I EXPECT THE RIGHTTTT MINDED STUDENT TO HELP ANY INVESTIGATION BODY TO BE SET UP TO FISH OUT THE PERPERTRATORS OF THE VIOLENCE TO BE PUNISHED. THE CRIME COMMITTED FOR DESTROYING PROPERTIES MUST BE PAID FOR BY THE STUDENT. IT IS SHAMEFUL TO GHANA FOR PRODUCING SUCH INDISCIPLINE BUNCH OF PEOPLE FOR THE FUTURE GENERATION. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS SHOULD BECOME THINKERS AND CREATIVE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND NOT BRUTEE. ALL SHOULD CONDEMN THIS SHAMEFUL ACTION.
EEII NPP TODAY WE DONT HAVE OUR RIGHT TO COMPLAIN. ARE WE NOT GOING TO SCHOOL BEFORE NPP CAME TO POWER? NPP 110 MINISTERS, BORROWED 50BN NO SCHOOL BUILDING, SCHOOL BUILDING, NO ROADS, NO CHEAP CONPOUND , FUEL PRICE HIGH, GAS HIGH, TRANSPORTATION HIGH, RENT HIGH, DOLLAR HIGH FOOD STUFFS HIGH. WHEN U COMPLAIN NPP NPP SAY YOU ARE NDC INFACT I VOTED FOR CHANGE BUT NOT THIS CHANGE.
does show me amount to insults. Be wise for a moment. List the achievements, ministry by ministry so that ones that are not performing close them period.
Eiii Oblitey Akwetey, have you been out of the country since the NPP administration? What is your criteria for measuring results/achievements of Nana Addo's government. You are acting as a peeved citizen. Why? Why Akwetey? Bring back your IDEG to its originality and shut your big mouth up.
LORD HAVE MERCY ON GHANAIANS, IS NOT THIS MAN THAT NANA WANTED TO APPOINT HIM AS ELECTORAL COMMISSION WHEN CHARLOTTE OSEI LEFT OFFICE. ei MY GOD IF NANA APPOINTS HIM, SO HE WANTS TO TELL ME HE CANT SEE FREE SHS, PLAINTING FOR FOODS, BY AGRICULTURAL MINISTRY. YOU CANT SEE NO MORE DUM So THAT IS CONTINUOUS SUPPLY OF ELECTRICITY, NEBCO, EMPLOYING 100 THOUSAND youth, and so onn. so this man don't have eyes to see. and NANA WANTS TO APPOINT YOU AS EC. BUEE BUEEE. PLEASE MR AKWETEY OPEN YOUR EYE YOU WILL SEE THEM YOURSELF WHAT NPP HAS DONE UNDER TWO YEARS. SO IF NANA APPOINTS YOU IS LIKE CHARLOTTE OSEI NDC GOES ANOTHER NDC COMES
Oh Dear Ghana! What is wrong with your so called experts? Can our "experts" be objective for once? Does it mean they never saw the rott in the system that made Ghanaians reject the NDC? Does it mean that the size of government is of more democratic importance than corruption, impunity, lies, insults, destruction of almost all state institutions and structures of democracy? These "experts" were deafeningly mute for the whole 8 years the NDC were in power, but they mysteriously found their voices immediately Ghanaians rejected their "heroes". What a shamme? Please leave the judgment to Ghanaians and keep to the day to day running of your centre. I thought, as an expert, you would appreciate the solid economic foundation laid now compared with the straw foundation the NPP inherited, the essence of economic indicators like GDP, inflation rate, lending rate, etc. At least let us appreciate the bold steps taken in agriculture, industry and manufacturing, education, just to mention a few. Please let's stop this academic hippocracy
You have disgraced the academia fraternity. Do you have the set period for assessing ministers or ministries. Quote the constitutional provision that mandates you to request for results of ministers after one and half years in power. You wanted EC chair and was not given to you so you think you can join the empty head john Mahama to talk any how. The President appointed them and he has a 4 year mandate to account to the people of Ghana and that is Democracy. You people are using NGOs to siphon foreign money into your pockets and think you can talk anyhow. Nana Addo has 4 years to account for his stewardship.
AKWETEY, DONT YOU KNOW NANA'S FREE SHS IS THE MOTHER OF ALL GOVERNMENT POLICIES SO FAR.FRON INDEPENDENCE TILL DATED FREE SHS IS THE BEST AND USEFUL POLICY EVER DONE IN GHANA.STOP TAKING NOKOFIO FROM MAHAMA AND RESPECT YOUR SELF .
I don't think this man has been in this country in the past 20 months or so. Where should the government start to give account of what it has done. The moment the government starts, they will say what about this promise you gave, as if all the promises can be fulfilled in a short time. Governance is not magic but it is all about taking pragmatic step to offer lasting solutions to the problems of the state both old and emerging problems. I am surprised this man does not appear to know or appreciate this. Instead he is re-harshing the old chorus of people on the sidelines who pretend to be blind. If you pretend to be blind, we shall also pretend to be death. Granted there is a lot of work to do but please DR give us a break and say something better. If you care to take sector by sector and asked specific questions may be you will be more meaningful than this.
